I can shoot at much slower speeds without a tripod, maybe 2 f-stops. I rarely require a tripod unless it is night or studio. This is a great camera for taking pictures. I love the flexibility I have with this camera, and that it takes the pictures so quickly that I can't tell the difference between this and a regular SLR.
