This Yamaha's "Instant Home Theater" includes a DVD player that decodes DTS and Dolby Digital. Dolby Digital and DTS deliver discrete surround enjoyment on DVDs and laserdiscs - DTS offers discrete 5.1-channel surround on music CDs also. The HTR-5240 can easily accept the decoded output from any 5.1 channel surround system, whether it's MPEG-2, the new DVD Audio, or a system not yet developed. Discrete power transistors rather than IC chips are used in the amplifier section to provide the cleanest sound possible. The amp delivers 70 watts to each of its five channels. Yamaha's YSS-918 chip provides Dolby Digital and DTS with full channel separation and no front-to-back bleed through. Additionally, the chip creates Yamaha's Music and Cinema DSP and Tri-Field Processing modes. Yamaha's exclusive Digital Sound Field Processing for music recreates the acoustic personalities of actual concert halls and other venues. Cinema DSP multiplies the effects of Dolby Pro Logic and Yamaha DSP to provide the best possible Pro Logic movie theater recreation in your home. Tri-Field Processing DSP does the same for Dolby Digital and DTS. The HTR-5240's surround modes include 20 movie and entertainment modes and three modes specifically designed for music. The HTR-5240 also provides ways to customize many of these sound field settings for your particular room. Specific aspects of a sound field, such as center delay time, speaker size, and others can be adjusted, displayed on the front panel and set so they're always there in a given mode.
