Yes it is true that the World Series has in itself fallen way behind the Super Bowl in terms of fan attention and National TV audiences, but let us not discount it as being an event not worth watch.

The World Series is a best of seven series where the first team to win four games takes home the trophy and the title of World Champions. The series actually goes to both cities of the teams participating, with the home team now being determined by the winner of the mid-season classic, the all star game, which pits the National vs the American leagues in a one night showcase of the best in the game.

Many purists think this is not the right way, but its the system for right now. The home team gets the first two games at home, followed by the next two on the road, then alternate the last three home, away, home. The other thing to remember about the world series though in response to it not being as big as the Super Bowl, is that the this is actually a series, not a once a year, planned out event, which is not predicated on a pre-determined location. Side shows, parties, and big name entertainment cannot be booked a year in advance because you cant know where and who will be in the Fall classic.

Even so though, the World Series still has its appeal to millions of Americans each year. It has also been blessed with some timely classics and memories not to be forgottten. Reggie Jackson and his 3 homers in the clinching game in 77, Carlton Fisks extra inning homer as he pleads it to stay fair in 75, or Kirk Gibson hobbling out of the dugout to pinch hit in the only game he would play in against the A's that year, and slugging a game winning homer off one of the best relievers ever, Dennis Eckersely. I say the World Series still gets a two thumbs up from me, and is well worth you tuning in still.
