The very first PC I bought back in the 90's had Western Digital installed in it. Since then I am addicted with the brand. I have used almost all the brands and personally like IBM the best but since it is not very common in my country and NOT cheap, the second choice of mine was always WD. Also I want my readers to know that in my country (Pakistan) branded computers (computers made by companies) are not that common (only big company offices and BPOs have them).
Anyway onto the review of the current hardware the WD 800BB hard drive, I bought it back in 2002. I was in my MS degree program back then and used my PC mostly to do my assignments and project work, other stuff included playing PC Games and I must admit that I was an addict to Gaming. So I can safely say that my usage of this drive was pretty heavy. As it was full of my games collection ( I like my games installed fully on the hard drive so that I don't get interruptions by the CDs/DVDs ).
I hardly got a noise out of this baby and it never slowed down. The only issue I faced with this drive is that it did not handle electricity malfunctions all that good. As soon as I put my PC off of Power Stabilizer it took a shock and got bad sectors. At this point I would like to point out that the customer service of WD in my country is not all that good so I had to wait for like a month or so to get my new drive.
All in all this is a good piece these days if you are a beginner or a high school student using early operating system like Windows 98/ME. It gives you good space in reasonable price with quality. But if you are more than a beginner or even a standard user go for a higher volume drive.
