...The viewsonic E790 is an excellent monitor for its price. the technical specifications call for a 19" monitor, 18" viewable. it has a 0.26 dot pitch and the maximum resolution is 1600x1200@76MHz. be prepared to use a large font if you want to push the monitor to this resolution. the nicest feature of this monitor is that the CRT is an Invar Shadow Mask. monitors typically fall into one of two categories. their CRT (the actually meat of the monitor) is typically made out of one of two tubes. the shadow mask or the aperture grille. many monitors use the trinitron tube, which uses an aperture grille. one of the unfortunate qualities of an aperture grille is that for monitors of this size, there are 2 faint lines that run across your screen, which are most visible when you have whitespace. these are the grille lines. there is one running... With a display of up to 1280x1024 at 80 Hz and a DPI of 0.23 horizontal and 0.27 vertical, this monitor will still give you a performance for word processing, internet use, light duty graphics, etc, which is what an average home and small business user is looking now at. As far as reliability, this monitor has proven to still hold the fame and reputation widely associated with the name Viewsonic. They do come with standard three years parts and labor warranty but if it was to judge by the feedback I have received now (ratio of failures per number of monitors sold) they hold to be tough as any other higher priced... ...Either you are an occasional user, or you use your computer heavy duty, a monitor, in my opinion, is something that one should choose carefully. You can get by with cheaper less quality components for the rest of your system, but the monitor is something you are going to be staring at from the moment you turn your computer on until the time you turn it of. Thus, as stated previously, a good monitor is highly recommended. On the other hand, with so many different manufacturers and even more monitor screen models, it is quite difficult which one to choose and which one to avoid.
