Van Halen - A Must see if with David Lee
Review of Van Halen by JohnA

Advantages: Awesome Shows - High Flying Music
Disadvantages: The other two variations of the group

Van Halen to me all depends on which Van Halen version your speaking of. I have had the opportunity to view 2 of the 3 incarnations of Van Halen, and to me, there is no debate as to which version is the best. If you want to purchase the true essence of Van Halen, then you have to purchase the albums made when the were fronted by the outlandish front man David Lee Roth. That was when Van Halen was closest to their roots. They were hard rocking, edgy, ...
...playing of guitar god Eddie Van Halen, awesome Drum work of Alex his brother, and Mike Anthony on bass. And David Lee Roth was the great showman. If they go out on tour again in the original format, give it a shot. Sammy hagar with VH was ok, but their music became a little too much top 40 for me. ... Read review

great band, great guitarist
Review of Van Halen by  dorian151

Advantages: wonderful 80s music
Disadvantages: n/a

...One of the best bands ever.. along with one of the greatest guitarists ever... VAN HALEN! van halen where a brilliant band of the 80s, that composed brilliant songs. The guitarist, eddie van halen, wrote the solo, and player it, to michael jacksons BEAT IT, which was such a famous and great song. That solo made it into the top ten guitar solos of all time, which just highlights the quality of their music I really enjoyed listening to them, I dont much anymore because I listened to them too much, but I still occassionally listen to the odd song, and deeply respect them I seriously reccomend buying their albums if you dont already have them, they are gold dust, CDs of pure quality and real music... top guitar player and great songs
Review of Van Halen by  jtbull46

Advantages: one of the best musical bands ever
Disadvantages: david lee roth left

...One of the best metal bands of the eighties. Eddie van halen is often considered to be the best guitarist ever. I personally am more partial to George Lynch, but his guitar playing combined with great songs and good lead vocals kept this band alive and kicking to this day. The band origionally had david lee roth as singer but then went with sammer haggar. There musical style also got a bit less heavy after roth departed and started a solo gig. Some of their most popular songs include; hot for teacher, running with the devil, unchained, panama, ain't talkin about love, finish what you started, why cant this be love. THe two hand tapping technique on guitar and the "brown sound" are two of the main features that are attributed to what makes guitarist Eddie Van Halen of on of the best guitarist if the the best ever....
