...I'd chosen Toshiba SD520E (multi-region) over lot cheaper SD330 and all the other models because of its capability to play almost all the disk formats and component videdo output and built-in 5.1 decoder. Most of the cheaper players don't have all these features. This player can play DVDs, DVD-R, DVD-RW, VCDs, CD-R, CD-RW, S-VCD (Super Video CD, MPEG-2 and much better quality than plain VCDs), MP3 CDs, Audio CDs, DVD-Audio disks (DVD-A). Only format it can't play is SACD (Super Audio CDs) but then you can play DVD-A disks. So it's clear that this player is really one stop solution for all the formats one will ever need to play (well, almost ). ...it was important that it had an S-VHS output. Sound would be linked to the AUX socket on my hi-fi. After looking through some consumer magazines, I decided on either this Yamaha DVD player or a Toshiba model. Due to the limited availability of the Toshiba in the run up to Christmas, I went for the Yamaha DVD-S520.
