Excellent TV for our purposes.
Has inputs for the PC, which comes in very handy. The picture quality is excellent. It is an LCD tv so the contrast did not look as good as the plasmas when viewed in the stores. But in our living room it looks awesome.
The preset "Picture modes" I do not use very often. I just leave it on "Sports" I like it bright. These preset modes offers settings that are suppose to be optimal for certain situations: "Sports", "Standard" and "movies." With the exception of sports, I feel that the offer modes, darken the picture and reduce the contrast too much.
With our upconvert DVD player it automatically adjusts to the widescreen format which is awesome.
The preset "Pic size" I also do not use often. I leave it on natural. I do not like my pictures unnaturally stretched out. And it the channels or video is widescreen by default, the TV adjusts automatically on the Natural mode.
The main thing that drove me to the Toshiba REGZA 42HL167 then, was the price. I got this TV for roughly 1000$ when similar TVs were selling for more. And the quality of the picture were just about indistinguishable between other LCD TVs being offered at that time.
