After owning our Tivo for a while, we had set up home wireless network. We then learned that you could connect your Tivo to the wireless network, which allows to you transfer programs to your PC, access photos and music on your PC from the Tivo, as well as freeing up a phone line for Tivo service updates. While there is an approved list of USB network adapters you could buy, finding them turned out to be difficult. The easiest way for us to buy was to buy the Tivo Wireless G USB adapter from Tivo.com.
It looks like most other USB network adapters - it's all grey and it has the Tivo logo on it. It has a long cord so you can move the adapter to where you get the best reception. It also folds so that you can set it on top of a flat surface if you desire. We have our Tivo on a shelf in a TV stand and the adapter sits on the shelf above it.
Performance-wise, this little guy has worked flawlessly. We've never missed a service update due to any reception issues. Our wireless router is in a separate room, and it receives the signal through two walls. It makes the updates go really quickly in comparison to the phone line. We've had the adapter installed for over 3 years with no problems whatsoever.
We've been really happy with this adapter. While we probably could have found a cheaper adapter, we couldn't be sure if it would be compatible. This way we know it will be.
I highly recommend it. It matches the Tivo and it works. I couldn't ask for much more from it.
