The IBM ThinkPad 240 - A sub-£200 gem?
Review of ThinkPad 240 C 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by mattyprice4004 taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages Small size, Lights, Looks smart!
Disadvantages Some say it looks bland, Small size limits functionality

...Watching the ICT market depresses me. Only a couple of short years ago I invested in the biggest desktop hard disk drive I could ever find - A roomy 120GB Seagate. Now we are up to 750GB, yet these cost only half of what I paid for my drive. The same is the story with the ThinkPad 240 - I remember when these were £1,699 brand new. Luckily I never bought one new, but I did receive one second hand a few months ago. This is probably my first review where I have a few serious issues with a product, as the 240 did leave a lot to be desired. But let's start with what's good. The first thing that will attract a lot of potential buyers to this laptop is it's diminutive size. It truly is amazing how IBM have managed to squeeze a full laptop into such a small case. The screen has a resolution of 800x600 pixels, which is enough for office work... Read review

IBM Thinkpad 240
Review of ThinkPad 240 C 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by callboy taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages Lightweight Compact Trac-Point
Disadvantages none

...I recently won an IBM Notebook 240. Not having much experience with computers, I found everything easy to set up and use. The instructions were very clear on how to set up and use the special functions. A big plus is the free 24/7 800 IBM help desk number if you have any problems. The 240 notebook is very light weight and compact. Thus the 240 makes a great travel notebook by taking up less space (such as air travel.) But yet it is very durable. Another other nice feature is the suspend mode when you are using the battery, saves power. The track point instead of a mouse allows quicker typing by not having to remove your fingers from the keyboard. Nothing to say on the negative side. Will keep you updated. Overall I would rate it a 10.... Read review

A Mixed Bag
Review of ThinkPad 240 C 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by gozzer taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages Small, light, fast, cheap
Disadvantages Very annoying recurring problems

...I bought an IBM Thinkpad 240 at about half price and in new condition from Dabs.com. At first, I was very pleased with it. I magaed to get Linux running along with windows and it was all fine and dandy. However, soon the screen started flickering, and it soon got very bad. I rang IBM and they said that yes, it was covered and yes, they would fix it. I recived it back in about a week with a completely new screen. Not bad! However, despite being a very nice laptop to use, and very portable, the 240 is not without faults. Recently, a few months after to original problem the screen has started flickering again. This isn't a major problem, because it can be fixed again, but is is more than a little annoying! Also, when looking for the cause of this problem (explanations include faultys screens, conflicts and the lead inside... Read review
