Sony's creative software "class" of music software covers a broad price range. I have tried several of their products and for the money, i think that the "Acid Music Studio 7.0", is the most bang for your buck. It offers midi compatibility, digital sounds (that can be found both online and from CD's) are also easily "ripped" and integrated into your composition, so actually this software is attractive to those that don't play "conventional music instruments" as well as the most proficient instrument players. This is probably one of the strongest products as far as support goes as well. The online help is excellent, the in-program help, and the in-program tutorials are all easy to understand, quick, and don't waste your time with vocabulary only the most schooled "studio geeks" would understand. Basically you can install the program and actually complete a composition in less than half an hour. There is extensive cut, paste, click and drag interfaces, as well as direct realtime live midi recording. This program also allows for microphone in from your pc allowing you to begin a home studio type of environment using a simple 1/4" to 1/8" adapter for your guitar, bass, or microphone directly into your PC's soundcard. (start with a low sound level so as not to cause any damage, see your soundcards tolerances to be safe). But, as i said, you don't need to even own or play an instrument. You can sample, layer, loop, add a few toe tapping beats, and presto...you have made your first song. Oh i forgot, you can also burn directly to your computers CD rom if you have a CD write drive. So to make a long review a little longer....if you have been searching for a reasonably priced, easy to understand program that offers something for everyone, then this is the program for you. From start of composition to finishing and burning your own CD that you can listen to or use it to show off to your friends, beginer to pro this program will have something to offer you. I am very picky about my music and applications and am really pleased to be able to recommend this product. Enjoy it as much as I do.
