Review of The Phantom of the Opera by SheGrizz

Advantages: great musicality and depth to lyrics
Disadvantages: none

...cry, now in a soundtrack. The Phantom of the Opera is a moving musical with breathtaking lyrics and a storyline anyone can relate to. Now you can have it's sound track even if you never saw the opera. Although sometimes hard to know what is being said and why, if you never saw the actual play, the songs are heartfelt and the musical score is deep and moves your soul. Andrew Lloyd Weber is a brilliant man and his talent is so evident in this cd. I ... Read review

Phantom of the Opera- The Musical
Review of The Phantom of the Opera by clairlouise1982 taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages Be transported to a magical and mysterious world
Disadvantages The price- for a family trip its an expensive outing

...Having seen Phantom of the Opera in 2005 and been blown away by the whole production, my fiancé and I decided to treat ourselves to tickets to a performance over the 2006 Christmas period. At £45 a ticket for a matinée performance its not a cheap afternoon out but we knew, having seen it before, it would be worth it. The performance was at Her Majesty's Theatre in the Haymarket area of London which is easily accessible by Tube, bus or on foot being adjacent to Leicester Square. Our seats were in the Royal Circle, row G whcih gave us an excellent view as we were quite high up but not too high. For those not familiar with the story of Phantom of the Opera, it is set in Paris in the 1900s, were a ghost is apparently haunting an Opera House. The Phantom (is he a Phantom or is he a disfigured man?You will have to make up your own mind... Read review

He's here, the Phantom of the Opera...
Review of Phantom of the Opera, The (2004) by bubblegum_princess taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages Looks stunning
Disadvantages Emotionally shallow, poor performances from the leads

...Since I first heard that Andrew Lloyd Webber was making a film of his musical, The Phantom of the Opera, I couldn’t wait to see it. Of all his musicals I thought that Phantom would make the smoothest transfer to the big screen the big budget that was given allowed for a level of glamour that the theatrical production couldn’t realistically achieve. The film tells the story of Christine Daae, a young orphan girl in the Opera Populaire in Paris, who has been coached in her singing by a mysterious mentor. This teacher, unbeknown to Christine, is actually the Phantom of the Opera – a masked man who lives in the sewers beneath the opera house and who has developed something of an obsession with Christine and is determined to do whatever it takes to advance her career. Following an accident on stage, the company’s... Read review

The phantom of the Opera is there... - UPDATE
Review of Phantom of the Opera, The (2004) by Maniac1701d taken from ciao.co.uk

Advantages Wonderful presentation
Disadvantages Once you have seen the stage version, it is not the same.

.....Inside your mind! Since debuting in the West End in 1986 Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera has wooed audiences of up to 80 Million people on more than 18 countries worldwide. The original story has been around for many years and has been adapted into many movies over the years featuring ghouls and madmen on the theme of a theatre ghost terrorising theatre goers and actors. Lloyd Webber's stage version has been closely followed by his Really Useful Film Company to tranfer the modern day story of the Phantom onto the Big Silver Screen. Set in two time periods, seamlessly moving from early 20th century back to late 19th century and back again throughout the story, the film tells the tale of a young man, disfigured and being shown off as a 'Devil's Child' in Paris as a side show. He is rescued and spends the rest... Read review

The Phantom of the Opera
Review of Phantom of the Opera by  jtbull46

Advantages: great music, timeless classic
Disadvantages: nothing

...I went to see this in Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia back in 2003. IT was the first non school related theatre program that I had gone to in quite some time. It was absolutley amazing. The story is good about the phantom and Christine. Ill skip the summary as that would spoil the surprise, but basically a phantom is haunting a theatre and becomes infatuated with a woman ( christine) and gives her voice lessons. He ends up kidnapping her and takes her to below the opera were he lives. Her guy Raoul looks to find him and they also have a sword fight. People seem to agree that is one of the best scenes. While the show is good. I went purely for the music. My favorite is The Music of the Night. I actually learned to play that on guitar and am trying my hand at singing it. I have the origional soundtrack and also some recordings of Paul... Read review

The truth is not what you want to see...
Review of Phantom of the Opera by  olly_plimsoll

Advantages: The music, the adventure
Disadvantages: It's all a load of old tosh, really

...a new cover. For all this, however, they're few and far between, particularly now it's hip to knock Alan Parker's Evita with Madonna's finest screen work and Antonio Banderas chewing up the scenery. So what better man to resurrect ALW's movie franchise hopes than the man who crippled the Batman series? He's used to filming nutters who wear masks, capes and live in caves. Step foward Joel Schumacher and Phantom of the Opera. Based loosely on a Gaston Leroux novel widely held to be one of the worst books ever written, Phantom of the Opera has always captivated and there have also been several non-musical adaptations. A beautiful singer, a disfigured but occasionally sympathetic madman, roses, masks, chandeliers and underground lakes, it's a distillation of all the cheesy fiction that's ever been written or will be written... wife think it's great
Review of Phantom of the Opera by  stonecold

Advantages: singing, scenes, back in older days
Disadvantages: none

...This is a movie that my wife had got for us to see. I thought it was ok but she really liked it. It was a musical back in the old days. It was a play that was taking place inside a theather and there was a phantom that lived there. When they was getting ready forthe play, strange things started happening. The phantom of the opera was in love with a lady on the set. He tried his best to get her to fall in love with him. It involved lots of singing. They really was singing awsome. My wife had to watch it several different times. It is a very enjoyable movie and I am sure you will like it as much as my wife did too.... Read review
