Well as the father of two little Hulk fans (which entails having all manner of memorabilia devoted to the big green smasher, including everything from DVDs and comic books, to green Hulk masks and big fluffy Hulk smash hands), it would come to reckon that a video game would be created for it. What is also not surprising it that my children would find it and beg and plead for it's purchase so that they could play a video game with their favorite superhero character of the moment. As their eyes turned green with excitement, my face turned green at the cost of the game. Was it worth the green I laid down for it though? Let us take a read and see.
I would say the answer would be yes. My children and I have enjoyed playing the game immensely, but it may not be for the big time gamer that is looking for that challenge that only the greatest gamers can beat. This game has a lot of good aspects to it, and a few that people may not care for. I will go over these aspects now.
The first aspect I really liked about this game was the graphics. Unlike some superhero video games where a lot of time is put into the details of the characters at the expense of the background of the game, this is not the case in this Hulk game. You will see a very detailed rendition of New York City as you trample around as the Hulk, destroying everything in your path. What this did for me I think is add a little more sense of realism to the game, while making it graphically pleasing as well.
Also a nice feature was that they included the voices of the stars of the movie into the game as well, which my children quickly picked up on, hence making them think it was like them getting to play as part of the movie in a sense. It was very cool, as they would put it!
An important aspect for me as a father, and as an all right game player as well, was the fact that the game is, well, beatable if you put a little bit of effort into it. One of the problems that I have seen my children experience along the way in these type of games was when they reached a point where the game gets particularly hard, they would tend to quit and walk away from the game. Seldom would they play the game either, which was particularly disheartening to me. If I am not able to get through some of the hard parts with them, they believe it is impossible to win and give it up. With this game, you are able to get through most of it if you put some time into it, which my boys and I do not mind doing.
It is pretty easy to attain some of the bobbles you need to collect in the game to be able to accumulate points and open up some of the cool extras you can unlock. In other words you get the feeling that you can realistically attain everything possible in the game, without thinking, "Oh I can never make it to that point".
Of course the most favorite thing about this game for my kids was being able to control the Hulk and unleash his dizzying flurry upon not only buildings, but things like robots and Army related things that are coming after him during the game play. The kids really enjoyed seeing all the special effects that took place when the Hulk destroyed something and it kept them entertained for hours upon in. Part of the fun of this was brought on by the ease at which you are able to control the Hulk, even down to special moves he has which are not at all hard to perfect. Many game reviews you will read will tell you that control setup of the character your playing will be good at best, but I am here to tell you that this is not an issue with this game.
Folks, do not take my word for this one. Yea it may not be the greatest game ever created for you 24 hour a day gamers, but if your looking for something that your kids will enjoy, not a bloodbath gore fest, and something that will more importantly keep them entertained for hours, then this is a title you need to pick up. A rating has not been affixed to this game as of yet.
