My wife has always been a stickler when it came to presenting a professional appearance when it comes to the clothing we wear to work. With both of us being in upper management, she feels that the appearance of our clothes sets a certain expectation of what me might expect from others. So when my wife put me in charge of replacing the old family iron with a new one, I felt a bit overmatched when I arrived at the store to purchase. I read each of the boxes carefully and the Sunbeam 4238 is what I went with. Was it a good choice? Let's read on and find out!

Indeed my wife has given me the proverbial gold star for this purchase. There is so much to like about it, I just do not know where to begin. As a novice when it comes to the ironing of anything, my wife set out to teach me the fine art of ironing. I picked up the device and the first thing that I liked was the clear compartment where you load the water. Unlike other irons I have seen or used, I could always tell how much water was in the machine, and when I needed to refill it. This is a great feature when you consider I use to get water on everything trying to figure out if I still had any left.

What else? Oh it is what I call a properly weighted iron. This sounds kind of weird but the last iron we had was so light, half the time we would push the thing, it would go too fast over the clothing, sometimes leaving marks. With this iron though, it has some weight to it, making you use some resistance and keeping better attention to detail. This was quite helpful.

The ironing surface if you will, is what they call a Teflon sole plate. I am not an expert on these surfaces other than to recall that it's the same surface that keeps my eggs from sticking in the pan! In the case of my ironing though, it has meant that i am not having problems burning holes in any fabrics, or having the iron stick. Instead it seems to float on the article of clothing until it produces a wrinkle free work of art.

This Sunbeam iron also has an easy to use lever that helps you to control just the right amount of steam to release on an article of clothing. It gives you the option of either Light or heavy steam, or dry ironing if you prefer. Heck it even has a spray mist feature if that is what you like to use. Add to this that you can also do something unheard of with my old iron, which is vertical steam ironing, which my wife has raved about with some of her long dresses, and you can see that this iron is just top notch.

I have one other noteworthy feature that I think is worth mentioning as well. This iron was the first that I have seen that was equipped with digital controls. To me this was another marvelous creation due to the fact that my old iron had a dial to set for different levels, but you could never really tell if it was set on what you wanted, or slipping into the next category. With this iron there is no disputing what level you are on! Woohoo!

Well folks, with this iron I can honestly say it has been no runs, no drips, no errors. With a price of 36 dollars, which I picked it up for, you cannot go wrong. So if your in pressing (Haha) need of an iron, don't get all stiff legged. Go out and pick up this little gem.
