== 1.Introduction ==

Welcome to my review of Sony Ericsson's W880i cell-phone. By now it is not fresh on the market any more but I would still consider it up-to-date. I own it since six month and used it heavily in this period. I bought it together with a t-mobile contract and used it mostly in Santa Barbara (California) area. Additionally to the plain phone-feature I also use it for taking pictures and most important for listening to music (it is also called "walkman" cell-phone).

2 Description of features and design

2.1 Design and finish

Evaluating the design of a product is always difficult since this aspect is mostly of subjective nature. Nevertheless there are some aspects here which might be interesting for you guys.

The W880i is very handy with its dimensions of 4.1 x 1.8 x 0.4 inches. If you compare it to other cell-phones you will notice how thin it actually is. It has a great finish. The front side consist of a black metallic-texture and feels very solid. The back-side is orange and has a more rubber-like consistency which is great since it does not move away easily on slippery underplays.

Overall I really like the slim and robust-looking design of the Sony Ericsson W880i.
2.2 Phone functionality

The reception of the phone is pretty good both with Cingular and T-Mobile Sim-Cards. Compared to my old Samsung flip-phone I had better reception even in places I didn't have any reception before. The voice quality on both sender's and receiver's side is above average too. Finally I would consider the battery life good. Typically I can use my phone for about 4-5 days (avg. talking per day 30 minutes).

2.3 Mp3 Player

The Mp3-player is actually the part I like most of this cell-phone. The usability is pretty good and the sound quality is superb. Thanks to "MegaBass" listening to bass-dependent music-genres like hip-hop and drum and bass is a pleasure with this device. I typically listen to music with a Bluetooth headset by Motorola (S9) and I appreciate the wireless freedom. The only downside of the music-player is the transfer speed for uploading the mp3s to the phone. It takes about 3 minutes to transfer one album from the computer to the phone through the USB-cable.
2.4 Connectivity/Internet

This cell phone features an USB Interface to connect it to the computer. Additionally it supports the WAP-, GPRS- and UMTS-standard.

Browsing the internet works pretty well with the W880. Although modern phones like Apple's Iphone have a better internal web-browser it is still good enough to check basic WAP-pages and E-Mails. I especially like the build-in RSS functionality which allows the user to subscribe to RSS-feeds on the go.
2.5 Digital Camera

The Sony Ericsson W880i has a build-in 2 mega pixel camera. In my opinion this camera is not sufficient as a replacement for a stand-alone digital camera. Nevertheless it is good enough for taking snapshots. I tried out showing the pictures on my tv-set and the result was at least decent.

3. Conclusion

Overall I really like the Sony Ericsson W880i. It fits very well for somebody who wants to own a very "handy" and "stylish" cell-phone which features the "basic functionalities".
