Advantages: Handy with lots of features Disadvantages: plastic shot button can take a beating
The Sony Cybershot DSC-W50. Our family had this one for a long time. It's not exactly the top of the line today but serves the purpose very well. It has withstood lot of abuse at the beach, picnics, tours, mountain trips, fell of a table probably more than 10 times. At 6.0 megapixels it has aided me in my work splendidly. The zoom is satisfactory though I would love to buy a zoom attachment one day. It's not as sleek, small and handy compared to ... ...backpack or my pocket. My Sony Cybershot took a lot of beating and the shot button soon gave up and broke because it was made of plastic. To get it repaired at the Sony service center the whole top assembly had to be replaced and the service center promptly repaired it in 2 weeks since the assembly part had to be ordered from the north or out of the country. Now it's back and works like new. ...

Advantages small, lightweight, durable Disadvantages video , acvtion shots, flash
...I agree with much that has been said about the great features this camera has but i have a few shortcomings of it also. I find that when on normal mode taking photos at night the flash can be overpowering to the poiint where everyone looks whited out. Also there is no manual shutter speed control which makes action photos difficult. I Havn't been able to find a function that will accomadate this. i also find that some of the functions have limited use there are several i have never used or never found the use for. Also the video camera isint great quality with the audio often not coming out perfect. Not a bad camera at all but i just wanted to point out some bad points
A great camera but for people just wanting a beginners camera for snapshots of friends and occasions, can be a bit lacking in my opinion...

Advantages Good quality photographs, lightweight, pocket size Disadvantages Does not come with enough internal memory
...After long, detailed research on the internet for the right digital camrea for me, the SonyCyber-ShotDSC-W50 was the winner by far.
Once I had bought and recieved the camera, I was instantly impressed by the compact, sleek size of it. Being a lovely small size means it looks modern and flashy, and it can fit snug in my pocket, ready for whenever I need to snap! The great thing about this camera is, the smallness doesnt effect the useability, it has a huge lcd screen, which takes up alot of the back side of the camera, but gives great playback in video mode (with sound!) and you can have a very good preview of what your pictures are like before you upload them to a computer or get them printed off. I would like to say at this point that I would say the picture quality I have gained from this camera is excellent. The only downfall...

Advantages Light and Stylish Disadvantages Relatively expensive
...The Cyber-ShotDSC-W50 is Sony's entry level digicam for 2006. It has 6 megapixels and aCarl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom lens. The model has a large 2 1/f inch LCD which is really clear and bright.
The Camera is really easy to use for beginners but the program AE mode allows more advanced users to change settings for exposure compensation, focus mode, ISO, sharpness, saturation, contrast etc.
The W50's body is durable, stylish and functional, it looks really cool and slick. The controls are well-placed,really ergonomic and comfy.
I found the menu system really easy to navigate, it's not the type of one that needs reading the manual as it's very easy to figure out as you go along
The placement of the 2 1/2-inch LCD leaves room above it for the optical viewfinder. The LCD is quite usable in sunny outdoor conditions...
