Sangria - "It's too loud in here." I exclaimed to a friend. We had just entered into supermarket at seven am. In hind sight it probably really wasn't that loud; and they most likely didn't own the brightest light known to man. I believe I must have been severely hung over from the gallon (yes; gallon) of Sangria my friend and I had drank the night before.

Why you ask? Well I was twenty and didn't know any better… and it tasted GOOD! I couldn't stop drinking it. That is until my body/stomach started rejecting each sip I took by pushing it back out the way it came. Not a pretty sight… but I have to say, tasted fairly good coming up to (as good as something like that can taste). I know; that's gross. But I really want to give my first hand impression.

Now the better part of the story is as to why I was at the grocery store. Can any one tell me why someone would purchase white carpet for there home? I just don't think it hides wine and vomit stains so well. Not to mention the clean up will only result in the eventual need for new, non-white, more stain resistant carpet. Problem Solved.

Anyway, below you will find the greatest concoctions know to man… Sangria.

To make the famous Gallon I spoke of above you will need:

1. Gallon of Red Wine. Nothing too sweet though; a nice Merlot or Cab should do.
1 c. Granulated Sugar
˝ c. of Water
1 c. Orange Juice
˝ c. Lime Juice
1 Apple Sliced thin

To Prepare: Make simple syrup by boiling the sugar in the water until dissolved, then cool. Pour all the ingredients (excluding the apples) together in a pitcher over ice. Mix well. Add the apple slices and let them soak for ten minutes or so. Pour into tall glasses (or wine glasses) making sure each serving gets an apple slice. You may need more apple slices as the pitcher empties.

Enjoy!.. and try not to drink more than your fair share… see the story above if you really need a reason as to why.
