I originally went out and purchased this TV set for my father at his insistence, as he wanted a set bigger than the little 13" set he had had before. Due to space issues (the tv would be sitting on his dresser), we had to find something that would fit in a smaller type space. Was this set the answer? Let's take a look.
The resounding answer ended up to be no. We had this set 28 of the 30 days available before we could take it back to the place of purchase and I tried everything to make it work, but alas it just never really lived up to its billing.
There were several factors that led us to taking it back. The first one that i tried to deal with was the difficulty in trying to hookup my father's various components to the set. My father had a DVD player, along with sattelite service to hookup, which you would not think would be that big an issue. Not so fast my friend. It turned out to be a real headache. It turns out when i went to setup the satellite service myself, not being the greatest at tv electronics setup, looked to recreate the same setup that was on the previous box. Nope, that did not work. The s-video input i was looking for could not be located. I checked the manual but it was not at all helpful.
After putzing around with it for the better part of three hours, i was able to rig something up by connecting it to the rca input on the back on the set. Well that was fine until my father wanted to use the DVD player i realized that i could not have both hooked up at the same time. To make it work, each time i would have to go behind the set, hookup up the cables to correspond with what he wanted to use. That setup lasted for about a week. He had had enough of that.
There was also much complaining about the colors as well. Colors were not as sharp as the sit advertised them to be, and on many of the stations my family liked, such as QVC, letters and numbers were very blurred and hard to make out. You could feel the end coming, but i was not ready to give up just yet.
We moved the old tv back into my father's room and i relocated the tv to a room we just cable hooked up and that was it. I figured that would solve all the component issues. Well it solved that, but brought up another one not noticed before. I am a huge sports fan, and anyone that watches the ESPN family of stations knows they use scroll bars on the bottom of many of their pages. That is where i pickup a lot of my sports scores and information. When i turned it to my favorite station, i was stunned. The bar appeared to be doing a wobbling, wavy motion. Other similiar graphics did the same thing. I was getting seasick just looking at it.
Luckily we kept the box it came in, repackaged it, and took it back. Moral of the stoey is, always keep your box around till the store warranty expires. Oh and stay away from this model. Yes it is thin in stature, but maybe also thin in performance.
