Manufacturer's product description
The Samsung SLK-407W provides high-quality video and will playback 480p progressive digital TV with an external DTV receiver/decoder. This TV comes closer to the quality and size of a plasma display - without the extreme price tag. The unique LCD display engine uses a 1.4-inch TFT LCD panel, an 11-element lens assembly and a first-surface mirror system to create a crisp, bright 40-inch widescreen image. This TV can be upgraded to digital with an external 480p (progressive) decoder. Progressive scan TVs display all of the scan lines consecutively at once on the screen, in one shot - unlike interlaced scanning which uses two separate fields of odd and even scan lines that are combined together to form the picture. By using progressive scanning to produce the picture, image detail and sharpness are greatly increased providing a much smoother picture. Also, you don't see the individual scan lines of the current NTSC (interlaced) standard. The 16: 9 aspect ratio (widescreen) display is perfect for those widescreen DVDs - you'll be able to see the whole picture without any giant black bars above and below the screen, just like at the movies. Two sets of component video inputs are provided on the rear, one for a DTV decoder/receiver and one for a DVD player. Although component video inputs are basically standard issue for DTV sources, they are the best way of displaying the maximum picture capability of DVD. If you own a camcorder or a video game system, you'll love the pop-out side panel with composite A/V and S-video in. This side panel pushes in to conceal the channel up/down, volume and menu buttons to add a sleek, uncluttered look to the front of the set - and you'll never have to spin the TV around again to hook up your game system and camcorder. The Samsung SLK-407W offers some pretty high performance capabilities while maintaining a reasonable price considering its technical innovations. If you want better than a regular TV, but can't justify a rear projection or plasma set, then this one may be just right for you.
