Manufacturer's product description
Samsung's up-converting DVD players are the perfect solution for home theater enthusiasts with new digital televisions who are disappointed with the current lack of high-definition programming as well as the fact that their existing DVD collections do not match up in resolution to their beloved new sets. Samsung's DVD-HD1080 player rejuvenates DVD libraries by up-converting a DVD's native resolution (480p) to output close to high-definition formats (720p/1080i/1080p). Because the upconversion process occurs in the digital domain, no data is lost (compared with analog conversion) and the resulting image is pristine. The DVD-HD1080 boasts a natural, clear picture, upconverted by way of DCDi by Faroudja (Directional Correlation De-interlacing), which substantially eliminates jagged edges that appear when standard interlaced video is viewed on progressive-scan displays. The DVD-HD1080 boasts 5.1ch DVD Audio / SACD support via its HDMI output and true HD 1080p progressive output. This means your home theater can become your home concert arena when watching favorite music DVDs. The unit has an emotional Jog-shuttle, allowing for improved ease of navigation within the DVD's content.

...The DVD -HD850 is designed for users who want to maximise their HD displays with their existing DVD collections, it employs a digital process that upgrades the standard DVD resolution to high-definition resolution with 1080i, 720p, and 768p signals. Quality of conversion is high and relatively easy to do, infact, took just minutes. The latest scaling up technology is applied to raise the video resolution of the regular DVD titles(576i/p) to HD quality (720px/1080i). Samsung's Hi-Definition DVD player will fully meet your desire for video and audio quality as well as design. It is reasonably priced and since Samsung are the leading brand in HD conversion technology, it is definately worth looking into. I definately made the right choice when purchasing this....

Advantages made by sony Disadvantages not everyone has one so online play is limited
...in for instance a clay brick have the 360 correspond.
Since one with the PS3 also no external drive assembly needs (like the HD-DVD for the 360 which once again an external power pack has…) the cable salad under the TV, is really only minimal contrary to the 360.
Blue ray vs. HD-DVD:
I on attached the PS3 over HDMI and 360 over the component cable mine Samsung LE32 R41B. Both I let BD and HD-DVD run in the dissolution maximally possible with my screen from 1080i. No question - both are brilliant in the comparison to the outdated DVD. I do not see a difference in the image quality between the two techniques however. For the HD-DVD it speaks that the films are cheaper approx. 5 euro than on Blue ray. If one however the amount of and the quality of the available and the planned titles looks at oneself seems Blu ray the nose in front at present to have...
