place. When a strange second explosion at the old Chernobyl site rocks the landscape, it leaves a vast "Exclusion Zone" plagued with deadly energy disturbances in its wake. The quarantined Exclusion Zone expanded over time, and by 2012, specially equipped poachers, known as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s, venture into the Zone to claim radioactive artifacts for the black market. You are a new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. battling for survival among rivals, soldiers and mutant creatures while trying to discover the true nature of Chernobyl's dark past and horrific future.

Detailed Description: First-person shooter, set in the near future, shortly after another disaster in Chernobyl. The authorities surround the area with the Russian equivalent of the U.S. National Guard, and they begin to hear weird screams and rumblings coming from within. After a while, though, most of them are returned to earlier posts. Curiosity also gets the better of some people, so they sneak into the 30-kilometer area to do some good old-fashioned investigating. These people are called Stalkers, and they report back to the authorities with their findings. Combining FPS, adventure, and survival horror genres with on-foot and vehicular action, STALKER features more than 100 NPCs, a large arsenal, and a slew of multiplayer modes.

...When you first start playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R, it seem to be a simple first person shooter. The controls are the same as you would expect, and you set out on your first mission. You speak to a few people, find out where your target is, and then head off.
You find some allies, and start to assault a compound. You sneak up through the trees, matching the pace of your allies. Shots break out - some of you have been spotted. A full gun fight erupts. They see you. Bullets fly past. You return fire, running for cover. Then, you die.
That is the point you realise that this is not a normal FPS, but a true strategic game, where the guns work properly and stealth is key.
The graphics, if you have a suitably powerful machine, are excellent, with weather and storms effecting the lighting and mood of the game. The sound is also excellent, down...

Advantages Amazing gun fights. Realistic, very challenging! Disadvantages Some annoying bugs like doors getting stuck, and enemies not spawning.
...I was weary when i picked up this game an felt it was a waste of money. My mind didnt change until the day after.
For the first few hours enemies failed to spawn, the engine was slow, and i had absolubtly no idea what was going on.....
However!
After finding a magical bug fix things started to pick up. I restarted the game and gave it another go. For a while the story line is hard to follow because, well quite frankly it makes no sense. But it...makes sense that there is no sense to it. My enjoyment came from making sense of it.
The video introduction means nothing at first - a van driving through rain, a man running and carrying you off to some old bunker on the outskirts of Chernobyl. Your put straight into the action though - you're given a gun and told to go help take over an old building. After that it is very much your choice...
