I own a Wii. I tried to purchase one during several months and at the end, I've got it as a gift.
I like classic games, so I decided to purchase this controller. It works like a regular control pad, but you connect it to the wii mote. I can play all the virtual console games with this controller. As I do not have any previous system, I do not have the old controllers compatible with the wii.

THIS PIECE OF A CONTROLLER ROCKS! IT IS REALLY A MUST HAVE FOR WII GAMERS. ASIDE FROM BEING HANDY..THAT IS, IT IS LIGHTWEIGHT, THEY ARE CHEAP. I INTEND TO BUY 1 AGAIN NEXT WEEK TO COMPLETE OUR WII SET. YOUNGTERS IN THE FAMILY IS 5 AND WE HAVE FOUR CONTROLLERS. I HAVE TO BUY ONE TO COMPLETE IT!

...I downloaded some old school Nintendo games from back when I was a child onto it. Games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, The original Mario games, and a few others. When you download these games you have to watch and see what controllers they can be played with, many you can play with the Wii controller but some games require either a Game Cube controller or a Wii Classic Contoller.

The classic controller for the Wii. designed for the more traditional gamers or for some games that just require the performance of the classic controller instead of the Wii remote that may be difficult to use at times when speed and precision is needed.

Advantages: Brilliant for virtual console games and works great Disadvantages: no rumble and if you own no virtual console games a bit of a waste
The classic controller is a different controller for the wii. Unfortunatly it has no rumble unlike a gamecube controller however this official controller is perfect for Virtual console games (internet is required to download them) and on some games there is a contol scheme for the classic controller and sometimes makes the gameplay better.

This is a must have for Wii owners. This controller rocks. It is wireless, light weight, easy to use and realtively cheap. I bought this from wal-mart for $20. This is very easy to hook up to the wii remote. You just hook it up wait a few seconds, then you are ready to use it. I really enjoy using this!
