Advantages: Picture quality, special effects, plenty of features.
Disadvantages: Slow flash recharge, SD card location.
...IS series (and many other Canon models), so I'll just focus on the new/unique features. The most notable for me was the addition of a flash accessory mount. With all the professional features this camera has, it was always a little disappointing that you couldn't use an external, more powerful flash. Advantages: quality for the price

I have had my Cannon S5 IS for about three months now and I love it so much. When shopping for it I compared it to other comparable cameras and it won hands down. For the price you can't beat it. It has been reliable and trustworthy. The battery life has been better than I expected. The only thing I don't like is having to be nearly perfectly still to keep the picture from being blurred.
