Manufacturer's product description
Pioneer Electronics, an established leader in optical disc technology, introduces the second-generation Elite DVD/LD player -DVL-91- with a wide range of step up features and conveniences. Elegantly designed with the Elite trademark Urushi finish and rosewood side panels, the DVL-91's new video circuitry boasts improved video performance for DVD, due to a newly designed 10 bit video processing LSI (Large Scale Integrated Circuit). The DVD format's 8-Bit video information is requantized into 10 bits for more accurate processing - resulting in fewer digital artifacts. This new Pioneer-developed video LSI combines, on a single chip, the MPEG2 decoder, 10-bit video processor, 10-bit DAC, NTSC encoder and audio decoder. By combining all of these circuits on one chip, the signal path is shortened and signal transfer is improved, resulting in low noise and enhanced video performance. The DVL-91 also features component video outputs that provide the purest form of video available in any consumer video product to date. To cope with the high recording density of DVD, the need for reliable decoding playback was necessary to deal with flaws in the DVD manufacturing process. Pioneer has developed a "ViterBi" decoding circuit that helps to compensate for physical flaws such as disc flatness and hole centering. This proprietary circuit enables reading accuracy to be improved by as much as 100 times. To further enhance the home theater experience, the Elite DVL-91 employs a TruSurround technology. With TruSurround, realistic 3D sound imaging is created from only two loudspeakers, enabling specific sounds to appear to come from any point in three-dimensional space surrounding a listener. Overall, the DVL-91 offers superior audio performance. With both coaxial and optical Dolby Digital/DTS audio outputs, complete compatibility with all AC-3/DTS multi-channel decoding equipment is assured. An AC-3 RF output is also provided for LaserDisc Dolby Digital compatibility. This player also offers both side play and digital memory for LaserDisc, condition memory for DVD that recalls set-up conditions such as language, Subtitle, and Aspect Ratio, for up to 30 discs; Last Memory for DVD and LD that recalls last scene played and set-up conditions for 5 DVDs and 1 LD, and independent DVD / CD Tray. Finally, with new, simplified layout, on-screen menus and Heads-Up Jog / Shuttle Remote, the DVL-91, DVD/LD/VIDEO-CD/CD, compatible player is truly the flagship piece of the Pioneer's DVD/LD line up.
