I always thought it would be a nice idea to have something to watch when going on long journeys and holidays so I decided to buy the Philips PET 730 as it was quite cheap and I didn't really need much more than a basic portable dvd player, and I will pleasantly suprised with the quality for what I considered a "budget" portable dvd player.

The screen can of course play all my dvds in widescreen and the picture quality is great for such a small screen and does eveything that I want from it and more! The resolution of 480x234 is more than sufficient for the 7inch screen.

The player also has the ability to play DVD+/-R and DVD+/-RW and of course CD-R and CD-RW and normal CDs and Video CDs, as well as MPEG4 and DivX movies. The quality of the Divx videos looks quite good in particular! I can even allow my family to look at my photographs when I come back from my holidays as the player also lets me view JPG files that I have burned on disc.

As good as portable is, its also nice to have the Portable DVD player at home, as I can watch my favourite DVDs in bed, instead of dragging the TV and standard DVD player upstairs! It also has a remote control if I'm feeling lazy when I have the player on the bedside table.

The sound is quite good and does not sound too tinny, as can happen with a lot of these Portable DVD players, although I mostly use headphones when watching movies anyway as I'm usually on the go when I'm watching movies, such as on the train etc.

The player itself looks quite stylish and is quite small really at only 7.6in wide and 6.7 inches deep, and it weighs only 1.9lbs. The player will also play PAL media from europe as well as NTSC media from here.

The only fault is the short battery life at 3 hours, so it will need charged after 1 movie. I have yet to test it with lord of the rings or something like that yet! The battery can then of course be charged at home, but more than 3 hours would be better.

Overall this was a great portable dvd player for the price and one that I would recommend to anyone for those to help break up those long journeys!
