Advantages Ease Of Use Disadvantages Expensive media
...I have been using the PhilipsDVDR75 for approximately 1 month now I can highly recommend it to you all as an excellent replacement fro your VCR.
The recorder has 6 setting allowing you to fit varying amount of time onto a single DVD disc. This ranges from 1 hour which is better than DVD quality to 6 hours which is about equal to long play on a VCR. The latter is ideal for recording your everyday shows.
Where this comes into its own is the ability to transfer all your old home movies onto DVD discs that will practically last forever. The discs will not deteriorate everytime you play them as VHS tapes do as well. Once you have transferred them onto DVD you will notice that the picture quality is improved. You will spend many an hour watching you kids when they were younger !
The set up is fairly simple. I have got mine connected...

Advantages Record Your Own DVD's Disadvantages Expensive
...of the videos I own onto DVD and they come out at even better quality than the original. Amazing.
The recorder can play many formats as well, not just your average DVD player. It can play DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW (video mode), standard DVD, SVCD, VCD, CD, MP3-CD, CD-R, and CD-RW. So I make my own MP3 Cd's with thousands of tracks on them and play them through the DVD player. This is my home stereo system all in one. The Dolby Surround Sound that is available with the DVD player makes this an amazing experience and if playing films it feels like you are actually at the cinema.
The instruction manual is very logical and coherent and it took me no time at all in which to get to grips with all the controls on the DVD player such as freeze, fastforward frame by frama and many other features.
The only drawback to this excellent piece of machinery...
