Manufacturer's product description
Imagine being able to record from TV or digital camera directly on to a DVD. Imagine the possibilities: digital quality never degrades. Precious memories captured on digital video at the touch of a button. With the introduction of Philips Recordable DVD, the possibility is a reality with Dolby Digital Sound. Finding your recordings has never been so easy. No winding, no waiting. Scroll up and down, select your recording and play. Here's the basics: Recordable DVD is a DVD with a Record Button. High quality video and audio recorded onto a DVD. Sounds great? Sure! But what if you want to play a recorded disc on an older DVD? Philips Recordable DVD bridges the gap between the past and the future. With the introduction of Philips DVDR1000, the possibility of high quality video and audio recorded onto a DVD is a reality. The DVDR1000 records from any source, including DV cameras (IEEE1394). Discs are compatible with existing DVD Players ("Bare" discs). For the best quality audio recordings, this DVD recorder has Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC-3) audio record quality. Choose from 4 Recording modes: DV quality (1hr), DVD (2hr), S-Video (3hr), and VHS (4hr). Of course, your Philips DVD-Recorder plays back DVD-Video movies as well. And that is not all! The Philips DVD-recorder is not only about recording. Are there embarrassing scenes you don't want to show to your friends? With the Philips DVD-Recorder you can select the scenes you want to see and hide the unwanted scenes at you command.

Confused? Not surprising so when I had the opportunity to play with the new PhilipsDVDR-1000 recordable, I was not expecting an easy time in front of the box. Surprisingly, this machine put all our fears to rest and more.
The PhilipsDVDR-1000 is one of the first stand alone DVD players that can record content off TV, video or another DVD player in the DVD+RW format. The biggest advantage of this format is that it is the most backwards compatible with the existing DVD player market out there at the moment. In the time I had this unit, all recordings onto the DVD+RW disc would playback on all players ranging from the recent Sony DAV-S300 Dream System right down to the first generation Pioneer DV-505. The only player that had issues with this disc was the Playstation 2 console.
There are so many features that this player offers so...
