...Got one of these little beauties shortly before Christmas as a replacement for a Olympus F40, wanted another compact with faster focussing and a level of water resistance suitable for beaches and kayaking.
The PentaxOptioWPi is proving to fit our requirements, the focus lag seems to be reduced and the camera has the ability to refocus as the subject moves. The lens movement whilst the camera zooms is within the camera body, behind a filter so no risk of sand getting into any moving parts. Battery life is excellent, cannot say exactly but I think that we took somewhere in the region of 500 or so shots with only 2 or 3 recharges to the lithium ion battery, a massive improvement on the AA Ni MH in our Olympus.
This model is currently available on the net for a lower price than the previous 5MP Optio WP is available on the High St...

Advantages Excellent Functionality and Easy to Use Disadvantages Sprang a Leek and drowned.
...We originally bought the Pentax WP and used it a great deal in and out of the water, and took some great shots. Easy to use and great results... however we were broken into and it was stolen. So I ordered the WPi as a replacement, just before we set out on a 5 month travel adventure, and we didn't have need to take it in to any water until kayaking and snorkelling off the coast of mexico where... while taking pictures of fish it sprang a leek and stopped working... bubbles coming from the small speaker holes at the top of the camera. We were some what disappointed after having such success with the WP. If it was as durable as the WP I'd recommend it in a second....

Advantages Waterproof and sand proof Disadvantages on/off button a bit small.
...This camera has turned out to be a perfect buy for us as a family. It is a handy size to slip into a pocket. The best thing about it is that it is waterproof and sandproof. So you can take it with you wherever you go without the worry of damaging it (just remember to keep it locked).
I've gone through a couple of cameras from being dropped into water in the bottom of boats so it was important to buy a waterproof one. Especially as it doesn't need a special case put on - because the likelihood of having it on when needed in an accident is slim...
There are loads of different modes - from underwater to close up flower. I don't know what all of them are for - there always seems to be more functions than are needed for the average person. Easy to explore without getting too lost in menu's.
The view screen is lovely and big so...
