The PV-9400 from Panasonic has four heads for better special effects playback quality. Despite its Shaker-like simplicity, the PV-9400 has a few noteworthy convenience features. A program index search creates on on-screen listing of the recordings on a particular tape. Select the desired program and the VCR automatically cues up the tape to start of that segment. Also standing out - or rather, standing up - is the universal remote, which Panasonic has dubbed The Tower. Thanks to its wide base, the remote can stand vertically on a coffee table or other surface, making it much easier to find. The keypad also illuminates at the touch of a button, so that you can distinguish FF and REC in a dark room.
