This player lets users enjoy many hours of their favorite DVD-Audio and DVD-Video discs, thanks to a five-hour rechargeable battery pack. And, in addition to being perfect travel companion, this ultra-compact model also offers many of the same enhanced features found on Panasonic's full-size DVD-Video decks, allowing it to be connected to a standard television to optimize the performance of the most sophisticated home theater. With its built-in LCD screen, the DVD-LA85 is also ideal for watching DVD-Video discs "on the go." The DVD-LA85 provides a stunningly beautiful picture on a 7-inch diagonal widescreen LCD monitor, and can be adjusted at the touch of a button to change aspect ratios to accommodate 4: 3 standard TV dimensions or the 16: 9 widescreen ratio supported by many DVD titles. This model also benefits from a 10-bit video DAC (digital-to-analog converter), which minimizes digital artifacts resulting in better overall picture quality. For superb delivery of the audio soundtrack that accompanies a DVD movie, the DVD-LA85 has built-in, front-firing stereo speakers. The DVD-LA85 also has a dts & Dolby Digital dual decoder built in to help convey all the benefits of 5.1-channel surround sound when playing dts or Dolby Digital encoded discs. With Panasonic's Advanced Virtual Surround Sound (VSS) feature, even consumers who don't have the room or the budget for a full home theater audio system may still enjoy exceptional audio. Advanced VSS creates a simulated surround sound effect, downmixed from either a 5.1 channel or two-channel Dolby Digital soundtrack, from the stereo speakers of any home audio system. Additionally, a Headphone VSS feature will provide a surround effect when listening through optional headphones.
