Introduction:
The Onda VX757 is believed to be built based on the popular VX747 with a few design modifications. The biggest adjustment of all is the change from touch screen to push-buttons. The next difference is the removal of the built-in speaker in VX757. All audio has to be listened through a headphone/speaker via the 3.5mm audio jack. Not surprisingly, VX757 also has a different look from its predecessor with a slightly smaller size (90mmx50mmx11mm) and weight (57g). Yet, inside this little black box,everything is just as powerful. VX757 is currently available in 4GB and 8GB of internal flash memory.
Design:
The overall design looks like a small deck of cards. All surfaces are smooth except the back where it is engraved with some wood grain pattern. Only the one button is located on the same side of the screen. The rest of the controls and ports are placed on the edges of the device. The entire unit is black in color.The combination gives a cool elegant look. It feels comfortable in hand and presents an impression of a solidly built device.
Screen:
VX757 inherits the 3" QVGA screen (262k colors, 16:9 aspect ratio, 400×240 resolution) from VX747. With the screen size of these MP4 players, you really need to have very good eyes to tell the difference between this QVGA and a LTPS screen.
User Interface:
You will find a total of six push-buttons on the VX757. They are labeled as the vol-, vol+, play/pause, rewind, fast-forward and mode buttons. Each button serves multiple functions depending on when and how they are used. You will not find a dedicated power switch for VX757. The play/pause button serves as that purpose.The mini-USB port, the 3.5mm audio jack and the reset-button hole are all placed on the right side of the unit. The micro SD/SDHC slot is located on the opposite edge of the controls. VX757 supports up to 32GB of SDHC cards.
The GUI:
The graphical interface is also very straight forward. In the menu mode, single press-and-release the vol-/+ buttons scroll the selection from one to the next.The play/pause or fast-forward buttons selects the highlighted choice or moveone level down from the current level. The mode or the rewind buttons exit the current application or move one level up from the current level. During video and music mode, a single press-and-release of the rewind/fast-forward button skip to the previous/next file, while press-and-hold the rewind/fast-forward button will just rewind/fast-forward the existing file. Press-and-hold the play/pause for more than five seconds will power down the device.
Audio:
This player is compatible with MP3, WMA, WAV, APE and FLAC files. It supports MP3 with CBR (Constant Bit Rate) and VBR (Variable Bit Rate). The sound qualityis wonderful. You can choose to play all songs or just one folder. You can organize the play order by filename, by title, by artist or by album. You can alsochoose to randomize the order if you wish. There are 7 built-in EQs available to choose from: Jaz, Pop, Rock, Classic, Vocal, Treble and Bass. This player also support LRC file which allows the synchronization of music with lyrics (currently, it only support lyrics in English and Simplified Chinese). Great feature if you are into karaoke.
Video:
Powered by the Chinachip JZ4732 as its main chip, video compatibility is known to be superb on this player. Just like its predecessor, VX757 supports RM/RMVB,ASF, AVI, MP4, 3GP, MPG and FLV files. The player support files with a video bit rate up to around 750kbps. The typical standard for portable media player is450kbps. With the support up to 750kbps, you should be able to watch yourfavorite fast-action/kung fu movie without missing the killer move. All JZ4732 powered players support playback resume, meaning you can pick up from where you left off without any fast-forwarding.
Photos:
VX757 supports JPEGs, BMPs, GIFs and PNGs. It can handle any picture size. You can rotate those pictures and stretch them to fit the whole screen. Since there is no need to reserve space for touch-screen controls, VX757 is left with more real estate to display thumbnails in a 6 x 4 fashion. You can display photos ina slideshow, and you can also customize the background picture for some applications in the player including music, radio, recording and text viewing(choosing background in text viewing is new in VX757).
Other Features:
-FM Radio FM radio reception comes standard on VX757. You can listen to your favorite talk-show without buying add-on equipment (take that ipod).The headphones wire is used as the antenna. Reception is just as good as any other portable radio epending solely on the radio signal strength. You can store up to 40 pre-programmed stations and edit you list as you prefer. You can even record audio clips from radio with selectable quality.
-Games VX757 also comes with 3 games built-in: Tetris, Brick and Snakes. With push-button control instead of touch-screen, VX757 is probably more game-friendly than its touch-screen counterparts.
-Voice Recording Again, just as VX747, VX757 is built with an internal microphone for voice recording with selectable recording quality to choose from.
-Text Viewing VX757 support TXT files for text viewing. As of firmware version 1.10, it supports English and Simplified Chinese for text viewing. It can read files with filenames in Traditional Chinese, but it does not seem to support text viewing in Traditional Chinese at this point.
Accessories:
The Onda VX757 comes with an earphones, a cleaning cloth, a carrying pouch, a standard 5-pin USB cable, the Onda warranty card, the drivers and tools CD andthe user manual (in Simplified Chinese). Though the earphones are Onda branded,it definitely lacks quality in terms of both sound and comfort. The VX757 is so easy to use that not having a manual in English is not a big deal. Conclusion:
If you like VX747, you should seriously consider the VX757. I own a VX747 and I can totally see why Onda comes out with this non-touch screen version. With VX747, I find it not always easy to selecta file at the top of the list with my fingertip. Without proceeding with caution, I tend to get the second file with my fat-finger (of course you canuse the stylus but such inconvenience). VX757 is also less prone to involuntary activating the screen while playing music, saving you power for longer playtime. Having push-button gives you better control for gaming and while driving (please, no gaming and driving at the same time). To me, not having a built-in speaker is not a loss since the quality of such a small speaker cannot be that great anyway. It would be nice if they replace the screen with LTPS but I will not lose sleep over it since this is just a 3" screen. How much detail do you really need? With the price tags slightly lower than VX747, I would definitely recommend the Onda VX757 to anyone shopping for a MP4 player. *This product is ordered from allPMP.com.
