Cell phone vendors are competing like wild. In result, they demanded big contributions from their workers to further develop every new technology they would apply in a cell phone. As one of the leading cell phone manufacturers, Nokia don't want to get lost in this competition.It can be seen from their introduction of a new Nseries, N82. They believe that they will more impress the photographers since it is aimed for true lovers of photography. The phone offers more than merely photographic features.

FIRST LOOK
The outlook design is not so impressive, just like every other candy bar cell phone. However, as we unravel all features and capabilities we're going to have a different view. It has the size of 112 x 50.2 x 17.3 mm and weighs 114 grams. Pretty heavy to keep in a pocket. The keypads are separated pretty far; remind me of those of Sony Ericsson T610i, as well as the metal case.On the left side is micro SD slot, TV-out USB and charger plug, whereas camera and gallery shortcut, volume control and speaker are located on the right. On the back there is camera lens, Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash light. The camera has cover to protect it and also functions to activate the camera.
DISPLAY
The phone comes with TFT display of 16M colors, 240 x 320 pixels, 2.4 inches. With such resolution, we can enjoy the clarity of the display. Nevertheless, there is something fantastic offered by the phone. It has display position censor which automatically follows movement, either landscape or portrait. So when opening gallery, internet browsing or see digital map we might want to use landscape, in order to have a wider view. In fact, this tech has been applied to iPhone, so it's not a new tech.

Music
In music menu, there are four segments: music player, radio, podcasting and music store. Hence we can store music from anywhere; via USB transfer or bluetooth, or subscribe in podcast. As for music store is not available in my country. The audio quality is not that good, compared to Sony Ericsson's W-series. However, it is pretty clear and loud, probably because the dual speaker is located on the side, so that there is no barrier of sound output. Supporting menu for increasing sound quality is quite complete, like equalizer, stereo widening, balance and loudness. Stereo headset HS 43 is included, and it also support bluetooth headset A2DP. I tried to use the radio, and the signal quality is good.
Camera
N82's strongest point is its camera. With 5 Mpix, the phone's camera is the best quality so far, for it uses Carl Zeiss optics plus flash ordered directly from Xenon, which will make picture clearer even in minimized lights. I tried to capture objects in a cloudy weather and I used automatic setting (flash off). To my surprise, the result was far more than I've expected. But when the flash is on, it is pretty blinded if we use it in a short distance. Supporting features to maximize the camera is so complete, from effects, WB, exposure compensation, light sensitivity, also macro mode.
With ease and speed to access camera feature, autofocus with special flash lights, quick reloading, and video recording like DVD, N82 is very reliable to capture valuable moments.
GPS
For photography lovers who like to travel to unique places, Nokia provides "one stop" device: top quality camera and its most up-to-date features to maximize photo quality and also GPS. Beside its function to capture special moments, Nokia N82 can also function as a device to show direction (GPS). So wherever we go we wouldn't be lost.N82's A-GPS (Assisted GPS) is equipped with installed map directly from Nokia Maps. Compared to common GPS in other cell phones, A-GPS has a benefit of fixing weak signal from satellite by the help of operator network. Therefore, common GPS weakness for instance barriers or indoor will be solved.GPS accuracy of N82 is reliable. Digital map search on Nokia maps can be found based on GPS position, address, keyword search, nearby, guides, recent and landmark. == Game == N82 adopted game application of N-gage. New game platform which can be used on Nseries (demo version) among other is Asphalt 3. Asphalt is a very challenging game. We can choose a location out of seven famous cities in the world and a car out of nine cars. Too bad the demo version is limited on the selection. == Office == Not only multimedia application and entertainment is available in N82. Office application Quick Office like quickword, quicksheet and quickpoint is just like in Microsoft Office. Other than that, in the Office folder also installed Adobe PDF to open pdf file. Additional application in Office is zip, barcode, converter and notes.
Slideshow
Camera or Bluetooth transferred pictures can be played in a slideshow. Want more fun? We could play the slideshow while listening to music in the library so that we wouldn't get bored.
Tv Out
With this feature, we can watch our video recording or see slideshow of our pictures on TV.
Memory
With RAM memory of 128MB, N82 has quite tough performance. It has internal memory of 132MB, but no need to worry, since it has Micro SD slot and comes with 2 GB card included in the package.
Battery
The battery is BP 6 MT, Li-Ion 1050 mAh. According to the spec from Nokia, it claims to be able to standby up to 225 hours, talk time 260 minutes, video call 190 minutes, video playback up to 200 minutes and playing music 10 hours. But when I tried it, play music about 6 hours, game about two hours and internet browsing cannot hold for a day.
Performance
To upload camera pictures or video to personal blog, N82 also provide one button quick access which can be operated while we do something else. When using for calling or SMS I found no problem at all. The voice quality of the speaker when calling is pretty clear even though the volume is maximized. Game display is nice and smooth. Receiving transferred file via Bluetooth of 150kb from other phone is fast, only a few seconds. It's so unfortunate that all of the features absorb battery power quite much.
