The COOLPIX S500 powers up within 0.8 seconds, and the shutter releases in less than 0.005 seconds. Light sensitivity range up to ISO 2000 with manual control or auto control creates new opportunities to take sharper, more natural looking photos in lower lighting conditions, or to capture fast-moving subjects with outstanding clarity. One press of the button simultaneously activates the High-ISO, lens shift VR and BSS (Best Shot Selector) features of Anti-Shake mode for clearer results in low light or when zoomed in for close-ups.

Advantages Good color reproduction, Strong quality build

...I've only got this camera with me for a few months and I'm loving it. This camera has 7.1mp, autofocus, face detection, anti shake, and ISO2000. There is a 2.5" LCD for you to look at. The colour reproduction of this Nikon isn't as good as a Sony. I own another Sony T30 digital camera. I love the stainless steel body which gives me a feeling of robustness. The LCD isn't viewable under the direct sunlight which is a pity. The camera scores for its face detection technology. The lens actually moves around to scan for faces. The menu on this camera is easy to use as well. Anyone can just browse through the menu and find what they want instantly. The placing of the power button is too close to the shutter button which people might turn it off by accident instead of taking a picture. The flash of the camera lack the slow-synchro flash... Disadvantages little buttons, not for sausage fingers

...I’ve had this camera for a nearly a month now which is long enough to have got to grips with it particularly thinking back on how many snaps I’ve taken with it. Our current camera ,although it's exellent, it is too heavy for me and I find it hard to keep its still enough The Nikon COOLPIX S500 is a well built sturdy little machine (88 x 51 x 22 mm / 3.5 x 2.0 x 0.9 in) yet it weighs only around 130g (4.6 oz) with the batteries in. It has stainless steel body and comes in silver or black like mine, personally I think the black looks more stylish. It has 7.1 mega pixels of resolution and a 3x zoom which has a range of 35-105 mm which isn’t massive but it’s adequate and the camera isn’t unbalanced when the zoom is fully out so it’s still easy to balance. The image sizes range from 640 x 480 to 3072 x 2304. The larger sizes give you plenty... Read review
