If you want to see some unbelievably beautiful pictures, many of which you can download and use as wallpaper, here is the place to go. If you want to see a well produced website, go here. If your husband threw away all your National Geographic magazines that took you 30+ years to collect (yes, he did!), well you won't find them here, but it may give you some comfort.

1. Log-on: You don't have to "join" the group - visitors always welcomed.

2. Kid friendly: Lots of information for class projects is immediately available on-line. Excellent tool for a computer-savvy teacher of any grade from pre-school through grad-school.

3. Contributions: If you have a fantastic photo that would be appropriate for National Geographic, you are invited to submit the photo for possible inclusion.

4. Format: Video and sound are offered on many subjects, as well as printable fact-sheets. Multi-subject blocks on every " opener" page. The pages are filled but not overwhelming.

5. What is offered: Every webpage has multi-blocked extras such as to how to improve photo techniques, quizzes on current events, a "Did You Know" section, and what is coming from National Geography via television, printed material or exhibits near you. That is on top of the wealth of information offered on the "big topics" of animals, space, in- the- news, etc.

6. Selling something: Yes, there is advertising, but it is so unobtrusive that it looks like it really belongs on a page belonging to National Geographic. Sometimes I am surprised that I am reading an ad and not additional text.

I run to this website when I want to get lost for awhile. I have yet to view every page - there is so much available to see, hear and read. I homeschooled my children before the current easy access to the Internet. I am sad/glad that my kids are up and grown, but now I can't use this site to teach and explore. Make note to fellow "empty nesters" - instead of having to share, this site is now ALL MINE! I definitely recommend it to everyone of every age.
