...get from time to time. The NETGEAR WGT624 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router is wicked fast with its Super G technology. A friend in LA, USA gave it to me. He wanted me to check it out why it won't just run plug 'n play for him with his computer. I told him that this product is supposed to install itself when plugged in a machine running on Windows XP assuming he was connecting to it thru its port. So he sent it to me and the moment I got the package, ... ...just plugged it in my computer thru the LAN port and there it was. Smooth! It was ready to go! Probably had some minor setback with his setup. But it did work out fine on mine halfway around the globe. It also works perfect with my Compaq Presario V3000 laptop, when it's turned on my laptop automatically detects the WiFi and always gets me a connection and hasn't failed me ever since.

Advantages: Easy to use, Fast transfer speeds, Great firewall settings Disadvantages: None
If you are looking for a great home or small office wireless solution then this is a great choice. The 108 Mbps transfer speed allows any pc that has a 108 Mbps wireless adapter in it to transfer at twice the rate of standard 54 Mbps wireless routers. This router contains four different security encryption options: WEP, WPA-PSK [TKIP], WPA2-PSK [AES], or WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]. This router also allows you to designate static IP addresses ... ...signal. It also contains basic logging of websites visited and allows you to block access to certain sites and services. It also offers a Parental Control feature through Trend Micro software. You can also set port forwarding or port triggering, remote management, and control when the router allows internet access. So if you wish to only allow someone to access the internet from 8 am to 8 pm then you can set these restrictions with great ease. I ...

Advantages easy setup Disadvantages wireless range is not impressive
...Despite the reviews I have read before buying this router, the setup is extremely easy and is entered in a menu driven http site. Setting up the wireless encryption is very easy as well. Online firmware updates.
I have used this router now for about 6 months and it is fast, good firewall. I took my software firewalls down to save processor capacity on the PC's and haven't had any viruses yet.
The wireless connection is fast and deteriorates with distance (and walls in between!) I find that 2 walls and more than 10 m distance takes the reception down to minimum. This is just enough for a normal house, but on the low side in a big house or office.
I have three PC's and a network printer connected to the router/hub.
All together I am happy with this product....

Advantages bulletproof, but not for idiots Disadvantages old firmware sometimes fails to renew IP lease
...If you're shopping on a budget you're going to get crap. That's life. Own up to it. One buys netgear for SOLID RELIABILITY and power user features. Unfortunately the early firmwares for this particular model were a little weak for cable modem users (me), but alright for DSL users (me too). The new firmware solves the issue of mysteriously disappearing IP leases (which used to require a router reset every three days once the issue manifested)
The lastest firmware contains many DHCP fixes, adds upnp, and other stuff that doesn't concern me.
I would like to see netgear go opensource on firmware as did Cisco's linksys. The sveasoft firmware for the Cisco Linksys WRT54GS2+ rocks! (even though sveasoft continues to violate the GPL)
A (turbo) / G (turbo) / B coverage is awesome. Even at the fringes of range (in a 6000 sq ft...
