Review of Mustek PVR-A1 - Digital AV player - flash 32 MB - 2.5" by

Advantages Low price considering features offered, good quality video playback Disadvantages Only has 32MB integrated memory (can be upgraded though), features lack quality
...*The Intro*
The Mustek PVR A1 caught my eye whilst I was browsing some mp3 players online. Not only did it have a very low price (about £70 at the time), but it also boasted a 3 inch colour screen, had the ability to play video's, store images and even more surprisingly it had the ability to record direct from a TV.
Obviously I was sceptical about the quality of such a product after seeing the price and the amount of features which it offered. In the end I took a risk, and to be honest I think I should have listened to the sceptical side of me. That's not to say that the Mustek PVR is a bad product, but it just lacks the overall quality which its innovative features could have so easily delivered.

A colourful and picturesque box was responsible for containing the Mustek PVR, and it did a good job. Upon opening...

...Ciao have got the best price for this neat little device spot on. I ordered mine from Directfrom.com for £86.88 on 28/11/04 as a Christmas present for my 13 year old daughter.
The order was confirmed by email immediately with a 1 – 3 day delivery time. You do need to be aware, however, that Directfrom send via Amtrak so if you’re not at home to sign for the package then you have to go to the nearest Amtrak depot to pick it up!
The box is about 6 x 4.5 x 3.5 inches which worried me as I was expecting a small, hand held device, but, never fear – you will not believe how small the camera is when you open the box!!!
It is smaller than my Fuji Finepix 2600.
“So what?” I hear you ask. Well the Fuji takes 2.1 megapixel photos (or lower resolution if you need to save memory space for more photos).
The Mustek has the following...

...I bought the Mustek model of scanner becasue of the excellent clarity of reproduction. However, I was a bit amused to find that the product has a loud sound when scanning. I don't mean a little whisper either, I mean a BIG SOUND!
If you can imagine an old truck as it starts up early on a cold morning, you may get the idea of just how loud the scanner sounds while scanning. This sound is present during both the Pre-scan and Scan feature. It's almost as if it annouces to the neighborhood that I am transferring pictures to my cpu.
It's a great flatbed scanner, though, and reproduces well anything I scan from books to photos to illustrations. I sell books on internet auction sites and it's a snap to scan the covers for my file transfers. The Mustek 6000P offers a 30-bit color scanning system and comes with the software needed...
