Manufacturer's product description
The RouteFinder provides wireless users with seamless access to their existing wired LAN allowing them to share broadband access to the Internet as well as other network resources. Using the IEEE 802.11b wireless standard, the RouteFinder provides increased speed - supporting up to 11Mbps - and mobility between the desktop, the conference room, or the campus. It supports a DSL or cable modem connection to the Internet to provide shared Internet access for up to 253 users. In addition, it provides one asynchronous port for backup Internet access or dial-in remote access. The RouteFinder's integrated IEEE 802.11b compliant access point provides the ultimate in mobility allowing users to access shared information and resources without looking for a place to plug in. The high-powered antenna design assures its wireless connection even in large buildings. The RouteFinder will also communicate with other access points on the network to provide seamless roaming from one cell to another. Installing the RouteFinder is fast and easy eliminating the need to pull cable through walls and ceilings. Adding a user to the network is as simple as equipping a PC with a wireless LAN adapter. With the RouteFinder, up to 253 LAN users can be simultaneously connected to the Internet with only one IP account. The additional WAN Ethernet port has a bandwidth of 10Mbps which easily supports broadband DSL or cable speeds. The RouteFinder also provides an additional asynchronous port that, when connected to a dial-up modem or ISDN terminal adaptor, can serve as a backup resource for Internet access if your cable or DSL service goes down. It can also serve as dial-in remote access for your telecommuters or mobile users. The RouteFinder provides 64 and 128-bit WEP encryption for wireless LAN security. WEP prevents access to the network by "intruders" and prevents the capture of wireless LAN traffic through eavesdropping. The RouteFinder also uses the NAT protocol to provide security from hackers attempting to access the office LAN without the extra cost of a firewall. Additionally, it supports Internet access restrictions by IP address, client protocols or a list of forbidden sites. In addition to providing shared Internet access, the RouteFinder can support a web, ftp or other Internet servers. Once configured, the RouteFinder only accepts unsolicited IP packets addressed to the web, ftp or other specified servers.
