...Picture Quality
The Minolta DiMAGE Z1 takes really nice pictures even in low light. It has a large lens on it that lets lots of light in and has a lens aperture of F/2.8-3.5. The first figure is quite low and therefore good for low light photography. The focal length is 5.8 mm - 58 mm which is much longer than compact cameras and therefore gives you more room for variable focus pictures. It also has a 10x optical zoom which is very nice. I also ... ...the Minolta takes far better pictures, they look better printed out too. This will be down to the camera mechanics, i.e. it has a longer focal length and bigger higher quality lens. There isn't a picture stabilizer though. I have even used it for doing long exposure night photography on a tripod with very pleasing results.
Don't be memerized by the pixel count, even at three mega pixels, this camera takes much better pictures than newer compacts.

Advantages Great looking, good picture quality and zoom features Disadvantages It uses batteries very quickly
...The first thing that strikes you about the MinoltaDiMAGEZ1 is how it looks - and though you may not be able to slip it into your pocket, it looks and feels much better than the traditional digital camera.
The next good impression comes from its ease of use, with little previous experience of digital cameras, I was able to start taking pictures within a few minutes. Most pictures can be taken without having to change any of the settings, though the options are there for more experienced users.
The picture quality is great and loading on to the PC was a doddle. Overall, I wanted a camera that I could use straight away that would give me great quality pictures without any hassle - and this fitted the bill perfectly.
The only downside is the batteries - if you are going to buy this camera, buy a a battery charger and rechargeable...

Advantages Zoom, swift focus, design Disadvantages LCD range-finder
...The MinoltaDiMageZ1 is a very nice camera. There is no way around it. It has a - if not beautiful then - professional look over it, and has just the right weight to make it stable.
This is also highly required, due to the 10x zoom.
The battery-container ensures a good grip, and all buttons works in a logical manner, as does the menus.
Slot for external flash is just another good feature, however the build-in one is so powerful you might want to fire it at a distance and zoom in on the target. (Diffuser can be made, check http://ras.winremote.dk/flashbouncer.php).
The lens itself has some benefits to itself. Due to the relatively large size, it has to be almost dark before you have to use the flash.
The quality of the pictures is high, though some might find 3.2 MPix a little to little.
Another thing is that when you zoom...

Advantages Zoom Zoom Zoom! - Quick Autofocus Disadvantages Bad video mode, easily brakeable door on mem card slot
...For about 4 years, I've had a Fujitsu Finepix Compact (Digital, 1.3 megapixel) which recently I dropped and broke the LCD, so I looked for a 3-megapixel digital but wanted a fairly decent zoom and came up with the MinoltaDiMageZ1. - WOW!!!
From the reviews I had read previously, I thought this was the answer to my dreams so emptying my money box i ran to the camera shop!!
The only thing that had me worried at all about this cam was the build quiality but yet on recieving this beauty and playing with it solidly for many weeks now I have not managed to find anything even slightly worng with it, if i have one grip it is that unless you are careful you may easily snap of the plastic door to the moemory card slot.,
I think the camera is an excellent buy. The 10x optical zoom combined with the various picture-taking modes (e.g. macro...
