You can't format the card in the camera. The camera in theory only supports 8gb cards, but it will recognize the 16gb card. HOWEVER, it will format the 16gb card as 8gb. If you use a card reader attached to a computer to format the card, it will remain at 16gb and the camera will continue to see it as 16gb. The 2GB SD card formats out at 1.8GB. This card gives my Canon Power Shot S2IS 15 minutes of video (640x480x30fps), 36 minutes of video (320x240x30fps) and over 775 pictures @ 5mp (2592x1944) and 6890 pictures @ 640x480. It is very easy to use and has great storage. I have a 6MP Casio Z600 camera and this memory card allows me to store almost 900 pictures.
