...There are times when your hands shake. If you have just engaged in some exertion, you will probably find that you are breathing heavily and that your heart is working harder than the normal at rest rate.
All of this can lead to a shake in your hands, just when you do not want it when you wish to take a picture. Just having the camera in your hands can be enough to introduce some shake.
Most of the time this will not be a problem. However if/when you are using a large telephoto or zoom lens that has a very restricted field of view, then a shake can be a disaster.
The Sigma 800mm that I have bought has a field of view of only 3+1/2 degrees.
So I want the maximum support for taking any shots.
There are times when a tripod is not the answer and a monopod is.
