We had 2 of these printers and both ate ink and they are not good at all for printing pictures. The only advantage is the ink is pretty cheap only if you fell like replacing it every week. It is a very easy printer to install and use. And it gets the job done if you are printing anything except pictures. Also these are extremely cheap printers, now I know why.

...It's two in the morning and here I am, trying to recall my experiences with this printer which is now solemnly placed behind my bed after about a year of use. It has now been replaced with the robust, but equally frustrating, Lexmark X1180.
This is your very basic inkjet printer, which takes both colour and black cartridges. I bought this on "sale" at PC World, thinking I had found a bargain, but there were a couple of problems:
1. The required USB cable was not included, as the other chap who reviewed this pointed out, which meant forking out another £10;
2. Only a colour cartridge was included; if I wanted the privilege of being able to print black, I'd have to buy a separate cartridge. Luckily I picked one up on "sale" also. (Actually someone just tore the box.)

The LexmarkZ23 comes from the "flappy plastic" school of printer design. It is shelled in a white plastic case that creaks when touched, yet the machine itself strangely feels pretty solid. There's a large mouth- like flap that opens to reveal the innards of the printer which enables you to change the cartridge. Annoyingly when you lift this flap it does not click into place, but hangs precariously like a piano-lid waiting to shut on your fingers. Similarly, when not in use, the paper tray, usually standing upright, slides rather turbulently back onto itself, then flaps flaccidly over the roof of the printer (again, no click into place!) I obtained this printer second-hand from e-Bay. It was cheap, I paid a tenner for it. I was not disappointed. The cheaper the printer, the more expensive the cartridges cost. Also the cheaper the printer, the more problems you can run into.
The printer being a Lexmark is of course an all-American product, but the LexmarkZ23 is an American product with a distinctly Eastern European flavour. You only have two green LED lights on the printer and a CD ROM for installation (working only in Windows environments, Windows 98 upwards but if you still have Windows 95 I guess it would work too).
