Manufacturer's product description
The RC-7 was designed to provide "best in class" home theater and multi-channel audio surround sound (with the matching RF-7 flagship loudspeakers, RSW-15 subwoofer and RS-7 rear channel speakers), but its striking metal drivers and real-wood enclosure also make it a desirable complement to any decor. Available in three beautiful furniture-grade veneers - black, maple or cherry - each handcrafted, real-wood finish is unique. The RC-7 utilizes a combination of professional grade materials and advanced horn technology for a smooth response and consistent coverage pattern. The new Reference Series 1.75" titanium dome compression driver is coupled to an 8" square Tractrix Horn and powered by an unusually large, video-shielded 22oz. magnet. This combination offers the speed and accuracy needed to deliver clear, accurate, non-fatiguing high and upper midrange frequencies at any volume level. This design approach is so efficient that it virtually eliminates the most common cause of driver failure - excessive energy. The two 8" Cerametallic woofer cones are lighter, stronger and better damped than commonly used cone materials. Cerametallic is a specially treated aluminum that has been anodized, or electro-chemically transformed into ceramic on both outer surfaces. Similar to the motor of the large compression driver, powerful, video-shielded 28oz. magnets drive these woofers, allowing for precise signal tracking without blurring the sound. Aesthetically, the unmistakable copper color of Cerametallic cones gives the RC-7 its distinctive Klipsch Reference look. The RC-7's cast-polymer woofer frames, which have high impact tolerance to stabilize the woofer motors and guarantee their critical alignment, are designed to be stronger and more functional than typical driver "baskets", and actually contribute to the overall enhanced performance. These non-magnetic woofer baskets eliminate any loss of magnetic energy needed for output and dynamic headroom. And the unique venting system cools the motor and voice coil to enhance reliability. The RC-7 center channel features Klipsch's version of 2.5-way crossover technology, called tapered-array. With tapered-array, the two Cerametallic woofers work together to deliver high impact bass with one driver transitioning out at the mid-range frequencies. This provides more consistent coverage across the listening field, less tonal error and improved dialogue intelligibility. The high quality crossover networks of the RC-7 are carefully designed for an improved blend between the lower midrange and upper bass frequencies. They are wired exclusively with custom manufactured Z-Series Monster Cable, as are the external bi-wire jumpers of the newly developed circular input cup on the loudspeaker's exterior. This materials upgrade (which is part of a strategic alliance with Monster Cable that will place this premium brand wire in all Klipsch Reference Series loudspeakers) ensures top-of-the-line connection from the electronics all the way through to the voice coil of each Klipsch audio system. The Z-Series Monster Cable comes in three frequency specific designs for enhanced definition and detail. Klipsch is the first and only manufacturer to have made a performance commitment to use Monster Cable in a complete line of products. The large tuned ports on the RC-7 reduce turbulence allowing for better dynamics. Its larger size, outer flaring, and precise tuning increase efficiency and bass response, which allows for more output with less distortion.
