Soft and melodramatic lyrics, pulsating bass and guitar. The band interpol has an extremely unique sound that has yet to be matched. Advantages: Great band, good music Disadvantages: Lyrics don't always mean things, not everyone's style
Interpol are a rock/pop outfit that makes mostly alternative music with a usually downbeat and depressing sound. That's just fine, though, because I love their music. They can be likened to a very modern Joy Division, or a more depressing Franz Ferdinand (my favorite band). Currently they have three albums: Turn On The Bright Lights, Antics, and Our Love to Admire.
Their lyrics are often creative and inspiring, using combinations of words rarely ... ...show it, of course.
Interpol are a very varied band that have a variety of different songs that fit a range of moods. They're a much lesser known band than many others out there, and because of this you can generally get away with paying less for their concert tickets and merchandise, though they have been steadily creeping up in popularity lately.
Their greatest cd at the moment is arguably Antics, as it's spawned the most hits and it's the most ...

I think it is the unique voice of their vocalist that carries this band to new levels and gives it a distinguished and notable quality and sound.

Advantages Great follow up album! Exceeded expectations Disadvantages Not enough songs! We want more interpol!
...Very Very good album! I was long awaiting this album after having purchased the first Interpol album, and therefore there a certain amount of expectation as the first one was so brilliant! But it turned out to be even better than I first thought! One thing I will say, is that the lead singer does have a fairly unusual voice, which on first hearing does take a bit of getting into, but is also highly effective in accompanying the great music which Interpol make.
The album opens with "next exit" which is in itself a great song, but also a lot slower than most of the other songs, and after having listened to the album before, I find it hard to avoid skipping this as all the other songs are so amazing! But no way is this a bad song.
As far as the other songs go, the favourites for me are the very powerful and melodic "evil...

Advantages Great album from start to finish - Expectations were greatly meeted Disadvantages The next wait until the 3rd album
...presence without picking up a single instrument.
To be honest, when i heard Bright Lights i thought that Interpol would struggle to follow something so amazing, but they proved me wrong. Antics ticked every box for me. You can't beat the first album but Antics can be a very close contender.
The opening track Next Exit is a great intro to the album. It is quite slow and you may take a few listens to like it but it is a great way to prepare you for the rest of the album.
Evil is pure genius. The bass and drum line are consistent throughout the song and make the song utterley perfect. Combined with Paul's voice and unusual lyrics, it makes a great choice for a single.
NARC is another slower track but i find this track really haunting and the lyrics are beautiful- totally stunning
Take You On A Cruise has a great guitar intro...

Advantages All killer, no filler! Disadvantages No 'hits' that anyone could relate to.
...Interpol are a four-piece collective from New York, Stateside that are now 2 albums into their career, 'Turn On The bright Lights' being their debut album from October 2002. 2 guys from the UK and 2 from the US...surely that will breed success and diversity, no?
'PDA', their debut single from the album release set critics pulses racing and tongues wagging that a band to follow the mantle of Joy Division or The Smiths had finally descended upon us (all be it from across the pond).
A pulsating 5 minute rush of dark, punky and melancholic guitars and drums in the vein of Wire and The Velvet Underground made the band the hottest 'hipster' band on the planet and with the unique style the band enthused, a huge cult following ensued but with little commercial success.
When the album was released around the same time, huge critical acclaim...
