Growing up back in my neighborhood during the 70's and 80's, we were blessed with a very diverse and ethnically mixed group of families. This of course led us to be friends with every group and race of people, but it also introduced our pallets to a wonderful variety of meals that we may not have had the chance to sample had we been in the typical Ward Cleaver type neighborhood. At first it was a bit different going over to some of my friend's houses and smelling some things that were not typical smells from my house, but as you took the time to eat them, you realized that a great number of the recipes were actually very tasty. Today I am going to share with you one that an Indian neighbor of ours taught my dad and I how to make. It is called Peas Masala Bath, but I use to just call it Masala Peas delight. I never did get the meaning of the Bath word, but I digress. Here is your list of ingredients:

Two Cups Peas

Two cups of Rice (I have been told you can use either type of rice, but i prefer the brown rice)

4 Green Chillies (peppers)

1/4 a cup of grated coconut

A small piece of ginger

1/4 teaspoon of Mustard

2 pinches of Salt

4 Cloves

2 pieces of Cardomam (We find this in an international market)

One small piece of Cinnamon Stick

2 teaspoons of Cooking Oil

Ok now that out list of exotic ingredients are assembled and ready to be combined for this tasty dish, lets take a look at how we put this together:

Cook your rice first, but do so with a bit less water than you normal would when cooking your rice regularly.

Now blend together the grated coconut and green chilles.

Next mix in the ginger, clove, cardomon, and cinnammon stick.

Put this mixture to the side.

Now put the oil into a pan, and heat it up.

Sprinkle the mustard in the oil, and add the ground masala

Now add in the salt

Make sure to keep stirring for a few minutes so that the flavors within the recipe start to rise up.

Now add the cooked rice, peas, and mix it gently.

In a few minutes this tasty dish will be done. Pour into into a serving bowl and serve...Great!
