Idle Hands

Idle Hands

Anton is a teenage stoner who, one Halloween season, realizes two days after the fact that his parents have been beheaded. He is even more disturbed to learn that the culprit may... more...be his recently demon-possessed hand. With the help of some fellow young drug abusers, some sharp objects (used to disembody several body parts), and a demon hunter (Viveca A. Fox), he may possibly restore some normalcy to his life.

My boyfriend told me that this movie was available on the Insight On Demand service to watch so while I was at his house I decided I'd watch with him. It tells the story of Anton (Devon Sawa), a pot-smoking teen who sits around his house and does nothing else besides watch TV. He has no ambitions. He doesn't even notice for a few days that his parents are dead, having been beheaded. He goes over to his friends' house to get some more pot because he's "dry", and it isn't long after until he realizes that his hand is posessed by the devil. The rest of the movie is basically Devon trying to deal with this in a myriad of different ways, including murdering his best friends, who come back to live anyway because they were too dumb to go into the light. Eventually Devon cuts off his own hand because he thinks that might help the situation. The love of his life (Jessica Alba) of course is oblivious to the situation for the while but as per all these unbelievable movies she falls for him, too, missing hand and all.

This is a very juvenile movie with stupid jokes and hokey special effects, but at least it's entertaining. It's not scary in the least, nor is it very original, but it's pretty funny at some points. It's an okay, quick movie if you really haven't much else to do. It's got some nudity and a ton of gore in it, so if you're squeamish this isn't the movie for you.

Interestingly enough the band The Offspring appears in one scene and the lead singer gets his scalp ripped off. I thought that was pretty cool. Overall, an unmemorable movie, but good to watch if you don't have much lying around. It's one of those "chilling around the couch" movies.
