My boyfriend told me that this movie was available on the Insight On Demand service to watch so while I was at his house I decided I'd watch with him. It tells the story of Anton (Devon Sawa), a pot-smoking teen who sits around his house and does nothing else besides watch TV. He has no ambitions. This is an alright movie. The title comes from the old saying "Idle hands are the devils playground"...which sums up the movie. Advantages Teen Horror Comedy

...This brilliant American Teen Horror Comedy film based on the old wives saying "Idle hands are the devils play things" sums up what is so good about the Teen movie genre. Directed by Rodman Flender (known elsewhere for directing the first episode of Ugly Betty) and clocking in at a not too challenging 90 minutes, Idle Hands manages to keep your attention and gross you out at the same time. Moments such as seeing the cat knawing at Antons mothers eye and McMacy getting the sharp end of a knitting needle are some of many, many highlights of this movie. Inventive murders keep the film moving (ear rings anyone?) and a comedy ending keep you wanting more. The cast although at the time not hugely well known are fantastic. ...IDLE HANDS (1999) : Definitely NOT your usual run of the mill teen horror flick!. This film has great yet subtle humour, superb storyline, gross deaths, great actors and, of course, the obligatory babe!!. I recently bought this release on DVD on region 1 after a recommendation from a friend. For whatever reason this was never released at the cinema over here in the UK, but in America it was a huge success. Before going into over-elaborate detail of the storyline - the general feel of the film is, at face value, a teen slasher flick. But I wouldn’t easily place it into that genre because it does appear to have a different type of humour to that of the Screams and more of an odd surrealness to it. ...I think this film took the urban legend of "idle hands" and turned it into a great movie. It provides great entertainment and the humour is great. The storyline is very simple to follow and can be enjoyed by the whole family. I watched this movie with a couple of friends (we're all in our late teens) and we laughed so much. In all honesty the film does include many gruesome moments (i.e cutting off certain body parts) but that just adds to the comical side of the movie (as long as you get into the film). The acting is great in the film. I thought that some of the special effects were slightly on the poor side but that really didn't affect my viewing pleasure.
