Hitachi's VTUX6450A is a hi-fi stereo VCR with four video heads and several high-end convenience features. Tapes recorded in S-VHS (Super VHS) mode, for instance, can be viewed on this deck thanks to its S-VHS quasi-playback feature. On the picture-quality side, this deck's 19-micron heads should give you less flicker, color error, and noise in EP mode. The 4-head design boosts picture reproduction at any recording speed, and reduces distortion in slow motion and still modes. On the convenience side, Movie Pass bypasses the movie previews that appear before the feature presentation on a rental tape. To get you back to the store faster, this deck takes just 83 seconds to rewind a two-hour tape. This unit also features VCR Plus+, which lets you program the timer by entering numbers from TV listings. Other convenience features include a front-panel jog/shuttle and an illuminated remote control. The front-panel A/V inputs are handy for hooking up a camcorder.
