...the size of the monitor was to the size of the screen, the better. My only other requirement was that it was silver, to fit the rest of my PC setup. PC World was pretty fruitless, with the old 'the only one you want is the display model' chestnut, so to speak. Their site however was more successful, and I found the HPw19.
In all honesty, most of the specifications for monitors were so close there was nothing to choose between. Contrast ratios, refresh rates, etc, all were more or less the same. Size was the only major issue, and connected to it resolutions (the number of dots that fit on the screen to make up the picture). Ideally, I would have wanted a 1600x1200 resolution, but the increased size took it out of my price range. So in the end, I settled for the 19" widescreen with a resolution of 1440x900. Sadly, I didn't really think...

...I have always used 17 inch CRT monitors which were a strain on my eyes when I was using them for a long period of time and when I found this at PC World for £150 I jumped at the chance considering I had just bought a new computer the previous week. The monitors resolution of 1440x900 made games and word documents clearer, this high resolution also makes it perfect for viewing High Definition movies from Blue-ray or HD-DVD which is important for if you will be considering buying a new computer in the next 3 years. The dimensions of this have freed up so much desk space compared to the large 17 inch CRT and the plug and play makes it ideal for those who do not want to use a CD for installing drivers and reconfiguring Windows. Advantages Silver effect, Neat design. Disadvantages Can't be tilted, only sits upright
...I have been using this monitor now for 6 months, and i don't know how i coped before without a widescreen. I use spreadsheets very often and it's so nice to be able to see more columns than before, due to the extra width.
I have found it to be very sturdy, and have a good picture quality. No blown pixels as yet.
It has an auto configure button to adjust the brightness and contrast which works well.
It is tempting to try to turn it off by pushing your nail against the flat on/off area, however this has caused a couple of indents on mine so i recommend depressing the power button with the soft part of your finger tip to reduce wear and tear caused by poking it with your fingernail.
Overall a very good monitor and i would reccomend this item....
