When a middleclass student has to buy something, he usually decides between 2 ways of handling. Either he wants to spend as less as possible because he needs the product immediately - or he is short of cash- or he saves money for a while to buy something expensive and valuable that he wants to keep for a while….

I'm more a type for the first option and as my old laptop damaged as I put in a car without protection during a trip, I had to buy a new notebook as soon as possible.

You have certainly already heard about this famous slogan that appears at the end of each HP TV-publicity. "And remember: HP exists only online". Basically, people use to say that you have to be careful when a store exists only online but there must be exactly this slogan that invites me to go on the HP website
I have to admit that I'm more or less a computer ignorant. I don't even know if I can count myself to the average computer user because I have no clue about computers. My friends use to speak about things like processor, RAM, hard disk etc, when they go to buy new computers- I know more or less what that means- but I can't tell you which capacity they must require to be good.
Can you now imagine how it works when I have to buy a computer? First I take a look at the price, then check the design, and if I still like it, I check the list of features that the company of creation always place beside the product to impress dummies like me. It always works….

I needed around 5 minutes to choose the HP Pavilion dv2610us Entertainment on the HP website. The price (nearly $649), was matching to my requirements and the design was nice….
Why be waiting now?

Two weeks later the product was delivered and I was owner of a HP Pavilion dv2610us Entertainment.

Now, I guess nobody is going to admit to take the same way as me to choose his computer. I can understand you. But in order to like or dislike this computer, I would invite you to continue reading the review. You never know…

**** The following part is only partly related to my own knowledge of ignorance.. Most based on made researches…

The Design of the HP Pavilion dv2610us Entertainment

According to my experiences, you like the typical design of a notebook-brand or you don't.
I have to admit I did not really like the design of HP Computer yet. But this notebook could really convince me in his appearance. The whole notebook is, expected from the keyboard-body, black metallic. The lines are sleek. Unfortunately, the material is a fingerprint magnet so that light traces are immediately visible. But if you keep the notebook clean the glance is all the stronger.

Keyboard, touchpad and speakers

The keyboard-body is silver with black keys. The silver touchpad is also boarded in black. Above the keyboard, you will find the buttons for media-related features (DVD release-button, volume, quick play etc) which are lighted in blue. The keyboard is very agreeable to use and the touchpad is quite smooth.
Something typical for HP computers that I would like to mention here is the inclusion of the touchpad disable button at the top of the touchpad itself. This tool is more user-friendly than a
F-keys combination that not everybody knows…
As soon as you have pressed the button, a small light beside it changes from blue to red.

Further welcome features at the top of the keyboard are **the Atlec Lasing speakers** with a really satisfying quality. The sound is clear and for the size and the weight of the notebook, the bass is fantastic (unless you are planning a heavy metal concert with your notebook). Since I am using computers, I can really say that they are the best speakers I've ever owned.

Display

The 1280x800 resolution 14.1" screen on the dv2610us is a feast for the eyes. At the top of the screen, in the middle, is the webcam, boarded with two built-in microphones. HP understood to build this feature in the screen so canny, that you can loose sight of it. You have here as well the financial advantage of not to buy an additional webcam as the design advantage of an unobtrusive build-in, camera.

====Performance===

The notebook has an AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-58 with 1.9GHz. As I already told you in the Intro, I can't really handle with this numbers. My experiences and what I have heard bring me to the conclusion that this microprocessor is more than enough and the speed is also fast enough. This also applies for the 1024MB memory Ram that you can upgrade to at least 2 GB. I don't think that I will ever be able to use it all.

The operating system of the notebook is genuine windows vista home. Since this review is not about windows vista, it doesn't make sense to speak deeply about the system (in addition to the fact that I would be overburdened with this..) . However, one feature of vista that I have to mention is the superfetch-feature that selects your frequently uses into account and knows in this way which programs need to be cached on the RAM of the computer. This feature makes the notebook faster.

At least, let's speak about the graphics part of the notebook the tool to enhance multimedia and play games, the GeForce GO 750M. I can say today after 4 months with the notebook that I am really satisfied with it. But I don't play high-requirements games, etc. I read in some other User reviews that the people were very unhappy with this graphic part. My advice: form your own opinion.

Input and Output ports

- Front Side: Wireless switch, IR port, headphone and a microphone jack.
- Left Side: S-Video, VGA, HP Expansion Port 3 connector, Ethernet, USB port, ExpressCard slot used to house media remote, and xD card.
- Right Side: DVD-RAM w/ Lightscribe, 2x USB, modem and power jack.

===BATTERY AND HEAT===
If there is something I'm really disappointed about with this notebook, then it's the battery life and the heat! From the 6-Cell Lithium-Ion battery you are expecting at least 3 hours of resistance. Unfortunately, every time when I am on trips, the battery is not able to maintain the pc for even two hours. The heat is also a problem as the notebook heats really fast. As I love to watch movies in bed with the notebook on my legs, you can imagine how disagreeable this could be after a while…

===My everyday life with the notebook===

To write a review means first of all to share your experiences. For helping you to understand better my won impressions about the product, it may make sense also to tell you what I have done with the notebook so far.

- Watch movies with the HP quick play. As soon as you have inserted the DVD, quick play opens automatically..
- Play games. PS: you can also upload HP Games through a preinstalled tool on the notebook.
- Download music
- Chat with the preinstalled camera and microphone
- Hear music from my Itunes library on the speakers
- Edit pictures with the HP photo smart premier
- Write and save documents like my reviews on ciao…

Things I would like to do in the soon future:

- Make a DVD with the muvee autoProducer software
- Play games high-graphic to figure out how strong the graphic parts are..
- Let a computer freak check the notebook to tell me if everything is truly fine…

Overview of the notebook's specifications
• CPU: AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 (1.9GHz dual core, 65nm process, 31W TDP)
• RAM: 2GB (2x1GB stick) Patriot DDR2-667 (upgraded from 2x512MB generic HP DDR2-667)
• Hard Disk: 160GB 5400rpm Hitachi Travelstar
• Optical Drive: DVD-RAM w/ Lightscribe
• Graphics: nVidia GeForce 7150M Integrated Graphics
• Wireless: Broadcom 802.11b/g and HP Bluetooth
• Battery: 6-cell Li-ion
• Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
• Accessories: Built-in webcam and media reader, modem, ethernet, etc.
• Includes: Microfiber cleaning cloth, a pair of earbuds, and a media center remote that fits snugly into the ExpressCard slot.

Conclusion

In order to write this review, the more I was reading about the notebook from other owners, the more I got the feeling that it is not very compatible for higher performance. But I have also to mention that I never have problems with the notebook and I'm more than happy to own it. Specially taking the price into account, I think that the offer is more than satisfying.
My opinion: for the average computer user this product is absolutely recommendable. If you are looking for more performance, don't buy it and spend your money in a stronger notebook.
For students: just save the money for it….studies always take longer than expected.
