For the past 2 seasons, the National Champion of College Football has come from the Southeastern Conference, which is among the toughest of all the major power conferences out there. In th SEC East alone, the Bulldogs must fend off the likes of Florida, South Carolina, and Tennesee. Even with these major obstacles in their way, Georgia looks to be a prime contender to bring the SEC a third consecutive national title.

To make it to the title game though, Georgia will have to escape a brutal schedule, not to mention an SEC title game, should they win the SEC East Crown. Their schedule is as follows:

Aug. 30 Georgia Southern
Sept. 06 Central Michigan
Sept. 13 @ South Carolina
Sept. 20 @ Arizona State
Sept. 27 Alabama
Oct. 11 Tennessee
Oct. 18 Vanderbilt
Oct. 25 @ LSU
Nov. 01 Florida
Nov. 08 @ Kentucky
Nov. 15 @ Auburn
Nov. 29 Georgia Tech

Away games at South Carolina, Arizona St, LSU, Auburn, and the home game in Fla against Florida could prove to be their undoing.

If Georgia does make it to the promise land, it will mostly likely start on swift feet and spectacular moves of Heisman trophy candidate Knowshon Moreno. This electric back burst on the season during his Freshman yr and rushed for over 1300 yards while destroying opposing defenses. Combine him with the emerging talents of QB Matthew Stafford, and two stud wide receivers in Seniors Mohamed Massaquoi and Kenneth Harris, and you have the makings of an unstoppable force on offense.

The offensive line, as strong as it was last year, should be even stronger this year with 3 of the starters being only sophmores and should be even better with a year of seasoning under their belts. Starting Center Fernando Velasco will be hard to replace, but the team believes they have it covered.

Defense should also be a major strength for the dogs this year as well. The team returns 9 starters from last years highly ranked defense. They did lose superstar Marcus Howard, but even think they have replaced him with a very special player in Jarius Wynn.

If there is one thing to keep an eye on, it will be the major loss of Brandon Coutu at kicker. He was drafted into the NFL and was Mr Automatic for the dogs last year. In the SEC, where many games are decided at the final gun, the pressure of having to go with a young, inexperienced kicker could cause major fingernail biting moments between the hedges this season.

The early years growing pains experienced by Head Coach Mark Richt seem to be behind him now, and his skill at recruiting has put Georgia back on the map. He has brought the program back to prominence in a short period of time, and with a little luck, this year will return it to the top of the heap come january, and hoist the National Championship Trophy.
